climate experts point to the orinda moraga region as having the potential for strong winds and a firer to pacific palisades in los angeles. they also note some areas have winding roads that could make it difficult for firefighters to gain access to a fire, or for residents to make it out quickly. the moraga orinda fire district has spent millions creating fuel breaks in the hills surrounding the communities, one in a series of enhanced protections for the area. hundreds of millions of people nationwide are facing dangerously cold weather, from what could be a historic winter storm along the gulf coast and into the southeast. governors from texas to florida have declared states of emergency due to the threat of several inches of snow and freezing temperatures. schools in most southern states are closed today because the areas don't have any equipment to clear the roads. the winter storm is also expected to significantly impact travel and lead to power outages. >> boy, that leads us to steve paulson covering. >> well, you know, houston lake charles may get more snow than tahoe this this

look at moraga. 25 degrees. orinda, now sporting 27 degrees. el sobrante, dublin, pleasanton, even livermore, now at 28 degrees. ross at 30. look at el cerrito as well. these temperatures are pretty uniform. menlo park at 36 degrees. this is why the national weather service has issued a freeze warning. a freeze watch. a frost advisory not only this morning, but every morning you wake up all the way through thursday. you're going to need to bundle up right now. let's look at some other notable numbers right around redwood city, 39 degrees. it's now 33, in union city, backing through alviso into milpitas. and again there you have livermore at 2837 degrees willow glen, cupertino, campbell. and in sunnyvale, winds are up to five. and that does cause a bit of a wind chill out there. we do have the clear skies with sun up at 717, and by the time it sets at 528, it's going to be a perfect winter, seasonal day. and that's because we have high pressure. it's right here, right now. we have low pressure there that's causing the rain across southern califo
