. >>> and some developing news out of morgan hill. a cleanup operation continues because of this accident. a tanker truck spilling prompted some evacuations this morning. what is happening now with the cleanup? >> reporter: frank, we are live here on 11 southbound in the city of morgan hill. you can see these crews are busy using long vacuum hoses to suck up this spilled fuel. they are wearing gas masks because the odor out here is very strong. we are standing downwind so it is blowing in our direction. we are feeling very lightheaded right now. i feel kind of bad for all the homeowners who have to deal with this. we have aerial footage of the spill itself. anywhere from 1300 to 4,000 gallons of fuel spilled. most of it went into the nearby ditch. the santa clara water district did not see it going into a creek. this all happened at 2:00 this morning when the 23-year-old driver of a nissan was going 80 miles an hour in the rain and lost control. he slammed into the guardrail. the sports car then crashed into the truck and caused the t

morgan hill consists of a population of about 35,000 people and we came here this morning because weabout [ speaking spanish ] otherwise known as the great ravine named that in 1842. today we call it uvas reservoir in the foothills of the santa cruz mountains or just west of morgan hill. we couldn't get exactly there this morning because we have a difficult time getting our signal out of there. but i shot this video just yesterday from my iphone and you can clearly see that this reservoir is dry. now, keep in mind, this reservoir is operated by the santa clara water district. it is one of 10 operated by the district and it does funnel water into 25% of the population in throughout the santa clara valley. but look at that reservoir, very dry conditions. this is a reservoir just six months ago i competed in a triathlon in swimming across the reservoir and today i think i could clearly walk across it. so while we did have much- needed rain over this past weekend and we have more rain coming in and a soaker on sunday, keep in mind we must do our part to conserve water here in the bay are

we talked to a woman today whose family has been ranching in morgan hill since 1917. she is a third generation cattle rancher but she may be the last in her family because of the drought. >> if it was raining, it was a normal season, you couldn't come up this road. >> reporter: janet isn't worried about the road to the top of her morgan hill ranch but she is losing sleep and about $2,000 a week over the still brown and stubby pastures where her cattle should be grazing. >> we should be green and a foot tall and not worried about where the next meal is going to come from. >> reporter: for now it comes from the back of the pickup. she started her own meals or wheels program, 1400-pound alfalfa bales which come from oregon and cost $300 are hauled out to the cattle and dropped off like emergency rations. the cattle feed off the bale but it will be gone in a day. >> i can't afford to keep feeding these cattle. i will have to get out of the cattle business otherwise. you know, i can't continue to do it. i can't afford to. >> reporter: so what she and other ranchers have ha
