joining us cyb security analyst, morgan wright. good to see you this morning. >> we closed out the new yeerar. >> we did. we had a lot of serious issues that propped up between then and now. i want to start with, if they anticipate this leap what immediate firewalls can be installed, literally and figuratively. >> basic stuff. let's take centcom for example. that was basic account security. let's treat your social media accounts that may not be a bullet or tank. give me a laptop over a tank any day because i can do more with it. they have to start sharing information and intelligence between the private sector and government and find ways people can be better prepared. most attacks aren't because they want to make money. they're ideological and have terrorism objectives behind them and have to get serious about security right now. >> how important is it for companies to install security encryptions. every company uses the internet not to mention the sony hacking situation that happened. these companies are not protect their informa

morgan wright looking at that same list probably wondering the same thing. >> i thought this was the remake of the james dean movie. it's called forum without a clue. these guys don't live in reality. after the irs thing, i had to keep up the good lines for you. bring the a game. i read through that whole report. i have to tell you, this is probably the biggest understatement, if not the biggest, you know, exercise in malfeasance i've seen in a long time to put cyber attacks down at the bottom. before i came on-air, i get the fact checkers. i called semantics, what do you see? 90% increase on our -- 62% increase against consumers. in fact, 552 million identities neil, had their identities exposed online. they project from 18 months to the next ten years, that cyber attacks and id theft is going to go down. it's unbelievable. (?) to me, it's perception. it's not reality. neil: all right. when those who really control the world economy don't place this as even close to priority, it can only tell me, morgan, that it will get worse. a lot worse. >> absolutely. and, in fact, neil in that

joining us from washington morgan wright, a cyber security expert. you know, this is coming off the north korea thing. and the extortion and invasion of privacy. but, this worldwide hacking situation, is there any way to control it? >> well, bill, i think there is i think one of the best things congress can do is put the awesome power of our military and homeland security, they have r and d capability research and development, look, the defense department built the internet. now, unleash their creativity, unleash the power of that to now help secure the internet. more r and d and more information sharing on threats. >> what are you learning on the research and development front? do you want to be able to pinpoint hackers like right away so we know what basement they are living n romania? is that what it is? to just find them quickly? >> that would be a combination of intel but then the r and d is also how to do a better job of preventing these attacks. >> so building the walls that can protected private computers like so you would get this service an

. >> joining us is morgan wright, cyber security analyst and founder of safe life.this is an area where perhaps there is bipartisan support. my question for you is how effective can legislation really be? >> how effective has it been? it's been zero. i mean we -- you have sony, you have centcom, you ever target you have home depot. you can indict all the people you want in china or north korea. the problem is we focus too much on punishment. we need to focus more on prevention and mitigation and detection and those were the things missing from the speech that i saw last night. >> so what would you like to see? what would be helpful? >> it would be more of a focus around -- it's better information. utilize the resources here the information sharing analysis centers. they have to get over that they think that private corporations are going to share information with the government. not the way things are going. so there has to be a better job of government sharing information back to the corporations, threat information, threat prediction and i'll tell you, one of the
