christine benz is director of personal finance at morningstar and joins us now to discuss. christine, always good to see you. you know, we talk about these individual companies and a lot of people go, well, i don't need to worry about valiant, i don't own it or maybe a few years ago it was blackberry, i don't own blackberry. but your fund might. how do you find out if your fund has a significant slug of sort of a contaminated stock? >> you can go one by one, tyler, look in each of your funds portfolios or we have a tool on morningstar.com in our portfolio manager tool called stock intersection and you can see your total weighting in a given company. it may turn out even if you have one fund with a big holding in, say, valiant, it may not turn out to be a big piece of your total portfolio. so it's a handy tool. >> it is and sounds like it. what about protection? how do you put in protection just in case you end up with -- i mean, because no one can see the future. we didn't, you know, a year ago valiant seemed fine, now it's not obviously. how do you put in protection agains

you are rated number one by morningstar 2015. and some people say we should be taking a new look there. are you taking a new look? >> we are. we are more bullish than your average japan, but that would put us in the cautiously optimistic camp, because the fheo japan is quite bearish. japanese equities represent about the percent of global equities now. they were 50% of the end of the 80's. in that time frame you lost a lot of levers and anarchy. what i have seen in general in japan has i think the higher end of the markets, the really high-quality companies are leading a charge that is changing the corporate environment. our own we is extremely important. in japan there is a whole index of companies that all want to be in the turn equity index. children shareholder return, the levels of disclosure that i saw from the companies that we met with, not every japanese company, but the ones we met with have levels of disclosure unsurpassed in the market. they do not the stuff on the website, before for investors communicate tremendous
