talk about this a lot in the book but i first encountered internet censorship on my own living in morocco my first night i went to login and the site just did not exist because the government found blogs debating the question of the democratic republic. that was a maligned opener. i'm in my early twenties and did not encounter that. you don't see that kind of censorship. of course later i would learn about all the attempts of the us government to censor the internet i just was not aware of it. that should me to a broader community of bloggers in the middle east and north africa and i learned so much more what was happening. that was my entrÉe to all of this. of course the earliest examples of corporate complicity with authoritarian countries come from the demand around 2006 and 2007 with thailand with the content or risk being blocked. there's a lot of complicated reasons having to deal with in corruption but companies didn't have a choice. they either had to take down content or get blocked. that's a choice they were making to not comply. but as these countries, and turkey is a good exam
