ashley morrison of cbsmoneywatch.com joins us now. good morning, ashley. >> reporter: good morning.appy friday, everyone. well, some better-than-expected news out on the jobs front that has stock futures rising. the government just released the big monthly jobs report for may. it did show that employers added 175,000 jobs last month. that was more than what economists were forecasting. the labor department says unemployment rate is up to 7.6% from 7.5% but analysts say that's because more people began looking for work, which is a good sign. when they stop looking for work is when the government no longer counts them as unemployed. >>> president obama wants to bring high-speed internet to 99% of the nation's students within five years. he ordered the ftc to expand a program to bring the service to all classrooms. right now only 20% of u.s. students have high-speed internet. sounds like a good idea. when he finishes with that he can get over to my computer on the set and if that's speeded up, that would be great. >> we have the same problem in our newsroom. >> let's talk gm. apparentl

ashley morrison is here in new york with that and more.d morning, ashley. >> good morning to you, anne-marie. well, asian markets finished higher on some bargain hunting. tokyo's nikkei gained nearly 3% while hong kong's hang seng added more than 1%. investors will be keeping a close eye on ben bernanke this week. he'll make a statement about the economy on wednesday. last month the fed said bernanke may start slowing down his stimulus program, and that sent the market scrambling. last week the dow drop 105 points to finnive just over 15,000 while the nasdaq dropped 21 points. >>> some of the markets are still bullish on the economy. that's not discouraging a number of economists. they're predicting a healthier economy and lasting growth. >>> gm is recalling an additional 200,000 mid-size suvs in august. they recalled almost 250,000, but it was limited to those sold in the 20 snowbelt states. this time the recall is nationwide and for the same problem. the power door and window module in the driver's door can catch fire even when it's not
