morrison, my home state senator, senator burr. thank you for our long partnership and your counsel and advice when i was in north carolina leaving health and human services and as i took on this role at cdc. i wanted to start with three examples during my 10 year of how -- tenure of how cdc has protected the health of the country. i've been saying a lot when public health is working it is often invisible. we are really not good at telling the stories about how we protected health and prevented crises from happening. let me give you three examples. first is from this year. you may remember we had an outbreak of marburg, an ebola-like hemorrhagic fever, in rwanda's capital, in their flagship hospital. my blood pressure went up. what i saw was swift action based on decades of trust building that has happened between the united states and cdc and the rwandan health ministry, where we were able to, one, get that call. they called us when we said we are seeing this, identified by a cdc trained epidemiologist. they called us to say that

keith morrison: so you don't let the sadness in? eduardo valseca: no. you have to find excuses for being happy every day instead of bringing excuses not to be happy. that might be the secret of life. yeah.
