we see some streets around moscone center opening up. now, before president biden left this afternoon, he had one more marathon session this morning here at moscone center. that included hosting one last roundtable with all 21 member economies of apec. president biden started off the meeting with a joke, saying, we're going to extend this conference for another five days. he got a few chuckles and then went on to highlight the achievements of apec, including starting a women in the sustaining economy initiative, which aims to support women in industries fighting climate change. the president also had a one-on-one meeting with mexico's president. andres manuel lopez obrador. the relationship not too warm and fuzzy. the two countries now need each other. mexico has surpassed china as america's biggest trading partner. both countries also agreed to try and crack down on the manufacturing and distribution of fentanyl, which has left a sizeable death toll on both sides of the u.s./mexico border. and both leaders pledged continued cooperation

there two clear ways to get to moscone center but people have to walk a long distance around.me vehicles able to get through and that is the significance of the police behind me. you want to make sure that those vehicles don't have to come up against any of the protesters. look at this video and it gives you a sense of how difficult and at times tense this can get. we saw just one individual trying to get through, walking south on fifth past mission and had multiple police officers around them to try to help them get through. at one point, it got a little physical, as someone who was trying to block them got shoved by a police officer. we have seen a version of that multiple times, not as physical but the idea that protesters really want to prevent someone from getting through this intersection and police officers or private security, having to be there escort and help them get through. this one particular part of the city. reed. >> shawn, great reporting today. thank you for being there were history is literally being written and so many perspectives shouted at the direction

we are on howard street in front of third by the moscone center. they tower over you as you are walking. at least traffic is open in the area for now. talking to the businesses in the area that's going to be impacted by apec, they had expectations going into this weekend with it officially kicking off saturday. as of last night they say they were seeing empty tables and chairs that would normally be busy. we did have the chance to hear from the general manager for one restaurant who tells us he was waiting to see the customers in what should usually be busy but really felt slow. he added extended hours in anticipation and the canceled all the product deliveries because of the closures around his restaurant. he expects those who do deliveries for door dash will struggle to pick up orders and his employees will have trouble getting to the restaurant. >> i hope everything will be a difference for our business so we'll see what's going to happen here, if we will see a lot of people. >> reporter: city leaders said this is san francisco's chance to be in

at moscone center today fences are circling the outside of the building and law enforcement officers from a variety of agencies are keeping a close eye on that area. in addition to moscone center, you'll see increased security and checkpoints around fairmont hotel in nob hill, the legion of honor at lands inn and the embarcadero between piers 19 and 23. this was the scene outside the fairmont hotel today. here's a look from our chopper over the embarcadero as crews were hard at work. on wednesday the embarcadero will be closed to traffic between pier 9 and pier 23. all week long our very own ryan yamamoto will be reporting live from inside moscone center in the middle of all the action there. so far not too much action, but ryan has some important meetings that have already taken place, right? >> reporter: absolutely. everyone is waiting for that high stakes meeting between the united states and china, between biden and president xi of china. until that meeting takes place, 21 economies of the pacific rim are gathered here for apec and with business to be done, the u.s. leading the c

moscone center, where apec is being held, is like a fortress in the city. all of the red you see on your screen, those are road closures. you're going to want to avoid this area . one lane along the embarcadero near the exploratorium has also already been shut down over the weekend. the green you're seeing on your screen is open to local traffic only, but no rideshares or food delivery will be able to get through something for every commuter to keep in mind starting tomorrow at 5 a.m, the bay bridge will be down one lane in both the eastbound and westbound directions. they will not reopen until 9:00 friday night, then starting on wednesday, some of the off ramps will close as well. that's fifth street and fourth street. through that same timeframe. as for muni, sfmta says the bulk of travel and transit impacts will be starting today and lasting all the way through sunday. all of the red dots on your screen are impacts to muni around moscone center, a few too many to mention on air. so you're going to want to check their schedules online before heading out t

ryan yamamoto is live at moscone center and he has been in the middle of all the action all week long. what is going on there now? >> even though today is the last day of the apec summit, a pretty busy morning for president biden, meeting with mexico 's president and having a lunch with all the world leaders of the 21 economies of the apec summit . right now, the president has left the building. he took the motorcade all the way out to sfo in the last hour. biden boarded air force one and took off, saying goodbye to his stay in the bay. you can see the motorcade driving right up to the plane on sfo's tarmac and the president walking up the stairs and saluting the crowd. the president meeting one last time this afternoon at the apec retreat, a luncheon at the roundtable where the official business of order , handing over the reins of the apec summit to the president of peru, whose country will host the summit next year. then, the big order of business and most importantly -- most important meeting of the day, sitting down with the president of mexico and discussing our relationship wit

if you're going anywhere near moscone center.curity zone is bordered by market street, fifth street, second street and harrison street. if you live or work inside that perimeter, expect tight security. there are specific entrance checkpoints for pedestrians and vehicles, and you can expect to be screened by k-9 units in the area. and people who live there will be required to show id. even public transit will be affected around the perimeter. it will be rerouted to travel through the soma district on the bay bridge. you will have lanes closed in each direction. the right lane is going into san francisco and the left lane leaving san francisco on the bridge will be closed to provide access to chp as additionally eastbound san francisco exits at fourth street from interstate 80 will close and the fifth street exit on westbound skyway will close for the week. another week long impact will be around the fairmont hotel in nob hill. that area is going to be affected. expect road closures and checkpoints and it's best to avoid that area
