another book that had a real impact was robert caro's book by robert moses because again i love the ideaat you help people to see how power really works in american society. growing up as a poor black kid in brooklyn, it was always a question who gets their streets cleaned and paved? you know, who gets to send their kids to and good schools. who has access to powerful people to politicians. you know, who gets bridges built as opposed to highways put through their neighborhood. and even -- and that's what that book says to me. good reporting can help people to understand the power brokers in their lives and so i always thought that was just marvelous. and, of course, you come forward and you get to the watergate era with woodward and bernstein and getting behind the veil to see power as it operates and power as it corrupts. to me, you know, that's thrilling stuff. i think that's what journalism should be about. >> host: i'm going to give you a moment to think about this next question. one or two figures in american history would you want to interview and what would be your first question?

john moses did a video clip as well, going over our goals and accomplishments prior to the exchange. i want to take a moment to review the open government initiative. the office of science and technology policy provided three phases where they actually asked the public to collaborate in order to really talk about a number of different topics. we were involved because one of those topics was rule-making and how to make that more effective and participatory for the public. the first thing we did was provided them with a blog post, and we actually managed the post. that was the first time we managed a post over a two-week or week and a half time frame. we encolluded topics on regulatory education, public involvement, how well do public members understand proposed actions? what does it really mean? what are some institutional changes that would improve the rule-making process? and how could we better increase public awareness? increase public understanding of their role in the rule-making process. we got a lot of good feedback on that blog post as well. several comments focused on how to

some people think that he's supposed to be moses or something and take his stick and part of the sea. this man adopted basically something that george bush left for eight years that he was in office. he left this in a big mess so they ought to give him a break. they really should give him a break. people like rush limbaugh and i cat think of the name on fox news, he really irritates me. i mean, barack obama cannot do anything, he can't even -- with all the people sittingomething critical. but i want to ask a question, sir. do you think he's going to become a great president? >> guest: it is too early to say. how can you do that? or could be a great president was something that he thought about at the earliest stages of trying to decide whether or not to run. and again this is pretty much the second chapter of the book where, you know, he and his friends are discussing what makes a good president, in his opinion the sort of mixture of the person and the time and that is why he thought ronald reagan was probably the great president and even though he opposed pretty much every single one

joseph lowery is a giant of the moses generation of civil rights leader.t was just a few people huddled in montgomery that laid the ground work for the bus boycott and the movement that was to follow. the founder of the southern christian leadership conference, he was later asked to serve as president. he agreed to serve for one year, but wound up serving, as he puts it, for 20 1-year terms. [laughter] some have called him crazy. one of my favorite sermons that i heard dr. lowery once delivered, he said there is good crazy and there's bad crazy. [laughter] sometimes you need a little bit of that good crazy to make the world a better place. born just a generation past the battle of little bighorn, a grandson of a scout for general custer himself, dr. joseph madedicine crow was the first member of his dtribe to attend college. he completed the four battlefield scenes that made him the last pro were chief. historian, educator, and painter. a good man. his life reflects not only the warrior spirit of the crow people, but america's highest ideals. his name was

"washington post" leveling off, "new york times" continuing to slide. into this mix comes news max. it is actually the largest conservative website but it also runs every single day stories that are critical of republicans and conservatives. news stories that report criticism, news stories that report scandalous behavior when it occurs. but it does emphasizes conservative opinions and conservative stories that you don't see in the main stream media. and one example is i began doing stories in january of 2008 reporting on reverend wright and his connection with barack obama. and until that time the mainstream media had totally ignored the fact that for 20 years barack obama was in reverend wright's pues, that he considered him a mentor, and the only exception was shawn hantty who had reverend wright
