helena, there, mount diablo, mount hamilton, the higher peaks of the santa cruz mountains have the winter advisory tomorrow. rain totals could go up to about half an inch to three quarters of an inch of rain, but we will probably see more than that. i think locally in the santa cruz mountains, there will be a few areas that get more than an inch this weekend. monday, still in this pattern did look at the color coding. still a chance of snow showers in the hills. it is very likely we will hang onto that through about tuesday. empty showers continue through. you see it in the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. the break will come wednesday night into thursday, as the showers move north. look what happens next week. we have this cold pattern with the low snow levels, then they finally moved out. then, a weather pattern that might be more typical of march is a warmer storm set up, with more rain and wind, that could come our way friday, which will mean we have to watch those snow levels outward this year, we hope they don't get too high, as the storm pattern continues into next w

been seeing some snow just all the way up into mount diablo as well and taking a live look from there the cam. you see the fresh powder just laying on top of the rocks there. it has been a very busy morning and it is a first alert weather day for a reason. we're going to see thunderstorm activity as we head into this afternoon. current temperatures ranging in the upper 40s and lower 50s and daytime highs today only topping off in the low 50s. so with that in mind, taking a look at futurecast, just within the next couple of hours, these storms are really going to start ramping up from the south. notice these little pockets of yellow. that's where we're going to see the thunderstorm activity. these are brief pockets and maybe you might not even see one in the local area but more likely than not most of the bay area will experience some sort of thunderstorm heading into the afternoon hours. this will die down later tonight and we'll talk more about that in a bit. but first things first some of the worst damage we've seen is actually in san mateo county. justin andrews is in menlo park ri

los gatos is already over 80 miles per hour, mount diablo, -- mile-per-hour guests, as that low pressure has been bombing off our coast, those winds have been powerful and damaging. we do have a high wind warning from the cemetery coast to the santa cruz coastline as we look at other parts of the bay area from solano county down towards the south bay, we have wind advisories, just between 50-70 miles per hour. those advisories and warnings up until 9:00 tonight. we go hour-by-hour, 6:00 this evening, winds so strong, and still gusty, over 50 miles per hour in oakland, and at 11 p.m., winds will begin to ease as the low-pressure weekends and pulls away from the bay area. tomorrow morning, much calmer conditions, and as we head towards tomorrow evening, a little breezy on the coast but not nearly as intense. as we check out live doppler 7 right now, notice all the lightning strikes that are right around to the east of this area of low pressure. we are tracking some downpours across the region from portola valley to los osos mountain view wasokloe bay, we are seeing the rain from santa cruz

we just got a abt 00ee, looking at mount diablo, 53 mph, 45 mph, the nno motor has been busted on top of mount tam. as we go through the 4:00 p.m. p.m. hour, 20-30 mph winds. colors getting lighter, from orange to yellow. that means things certainly coming down for the afternoon, just spotty showers. there is a look at a shaky bridge camera. here's a look at the wind gusts, 73 mph inthe hills, mount diablo, 79 mph, sfo, 83 because this was a fast mover, look at the ring totals to nevada, over an inch of rain. because i moved on so quickly, the south bay and the east bay spared the hiring totals. -- the higher totals. the rainfall is quickly out of here. it dissipates. the afternoon commute will be breezy but we willac less than s than 500ths of an inch out there. temperatures are in the 50's to near 60 degrees, certainly mild with the southerly winds. 64 concord. livermore, a couple of inches of snow. we have been looking at a rain-snow mix in the sierra nevada. the rest of the day today, things quickly clear out for your wednesday, thursday, friday. we have rain returning for the wee

actually seeing some snow showers out there right now throughout the east bay hills, including the mount diablo range with some pockets of some light rain over palo alto. just starting to exit for those of you in fremont. but it's those shower activities to our north. that is going to bring us some more cells and could bring us some moderate downpours as well slight chance of pop-up thunderstorms from now through tuesday. so just keep that in mind. the bulk of the wet weather as we see a line of storms arriving early monday morning shortly before 6 o'clock from half moon bay into vacaville to we could see mountain snow. in addition to that, some pockets of moderate rain as that storm track shifts south and east into the east bay and south bay bringing rain and snow showers by mid-morning on monday. dry for the most part monday afternoon with scattered showers through monday night. but then drying out into your tuesday with rain totals, about half an inch of rain or less and an atmospheric river arriving later this upcoming week. more on that in my full forecast in just a few minutes. back to yo

obviously up towards mount hamilton and mount diablo and we will see more snow at times, for your monday. but also some sunny brakes at times. you can see breaks in the clouds, but scattered showers ongoing. best chance for accumulating snowfall, one more time here, out towards mount hamilton. the higher peaks of the santa cruz mountains, and up there in the higher hills of the north bay. rain totals again, the cold air, not seeing big rain totals yet, a quarter inch of rain, and in some cases, up to about a half inch of rain in the north bay hills. this pattern keeps on going. tuesday into wednesday, i think by later tuesday into thursday, things will very briefly dry out and i had of this atmospheric river. you will hear more about this this week. friday into the weekend, that could really bring out those rainfall rates, those temperatures are going to climb out of those 40s and 50s. with the rain in the 60s, as we head towards the weekend. that might be the break, right there on thursday, look at friday, moisture coming into california, boosted by the atmospheric river. and the long-r

also notice a little bit of snowfall still hanging on the mount diablo right there. and a whole lot of snowfall still up on mount hamilton and just east of san jose. as for the south bay rainfall already pushing through just a few light showers lingering in the santa clara valley. more so down towards gilroy and eventually to hollister. if you're heading that direction and then also just a few light showers here and there right across the core of the bay. for the most part, we're in the process of coming down now, while the sierra just really starting to see a pick-up heavy snowfall along both highway 50 as well as i-80 is. you're trying to get up to tahoe 40's for current temperatures hasn't been the coldest mornings, but it is chilly and wet. so kit layered up san francisco and san mateo at 45 oakland. you're sitting at 46 right now. as far as what we can expect later today, temperatures rise into the 50's and winds continue to calm down. most importantly, though, the sunshine comes back out in full force, especially after 10:00am. and then we're smooth sailing the

you can see mount diablo at 28 degrees. elsewhere, temperatures are milder.re in the 40's, 42 in pleasant hill. 44 in martinez. with the cloud cover numbers here in san francisco. 44 in mountain view. compared to 24 hours ago we are anywhere from six or seven degrees warmer. we had that sun before the high clouds fill in. we will be looking at temperatures well below average the next several days. our forecast headlines then wet and windy this weekend. a slight chance of thunderstorms coming in tomorrow. the unsettled pattern continues into next week and we are looking at big-time snow in the mountains. to the and east. it is pushing into the east bay, peninsula, it is going to be a quick mover. by 1:00 heading out to the south bay, those snow levels. we have a winter weather advisory for the hills of the north bay here. we could see up to 10 inches of snow. the cold air moving in behind the front is when the atmosphere becomes right for thunderstorms. some isolated showers sunday, monday, tuesday. taking us over an inch of rain here within a half inch. this

that means expect more snow on mount diablo, mount hamilton. even some snow at the very top of highway 17 this morning. what we are seeing as most widespread rain so far in sonoma county. lynn, right here and the core of the bay. we're seeing some lingering showers that are just going to stay in their right there on top of the bay from sfo on over to san leandro. futurecast shows in advance of a line of heavier rainfall throughout the course of the morning commute. 06:00am for the north bay at 07:00am to 08:00am for san francisco. 8, 9, to 10:00am for areas further south of the bay area. so quite the active morning ahead of us. but following that, actually, some nice clearing skies into the afternoon. showers return again into your evening hours tonight. so do watch for some of that activity as we move on into tomorrow. we kick off the day with some more spotty showers. so some evening rain tonight. some more morning showers for your tuesday after that. your afternoon dries out for your tuesday. that's kind of the way this week goes off and on

there is still snow on the summit of mount diablo. it is a little patch here in some spots. sandhya patel is here. >> she has all the latest on the storms we have had. and the drought map. what drought? >> we are drought free in the bay area. it is great. it's take a look at the statewide picture. five months ago the start of the water year october 1 the entire stay in a drought. the worst are categories covering a good portion of the inland areas from extreme to exceptional even down toward some parts of the coastline. as of today you will notice how much the drought has shrunk and how much better it is in terms of the severity of the drought. as we take a look at the bay area we are drought free. statewide we were 36% of the stay in drought. today, 28% per the sacramento valley saw an improvement. everybody is above average. when you look at the start of the water year october 21, oakland, 182 above average. san jose 126% above average. 136% to rosa. 18 of the last 23 days have been rainy. it has been a productive march. as we take a look at the sierra snowpack it has been

a damp day in the east bay -- from heavy rainfall to the snow-covered trails of mount diablo -- >> be heard it snowed a lot so we are excited to finally see some snow in the bay area. >> he and his girlfriend spent today trying to check out the snow. like many others in the bay area come a they did not expect this much snow. >> not having experienced that in the bay kind of hurts but now to get some snow feels exciting. >> juniper campground was packed with many people, many drove up the winding snow-covered roads to take and what many are calling a historic storm. >> i was really surprised. not used to that around here. >> a good day for some, headache for others. the rain at lower levels created potholes and those potholes damaged numerous cars. >> i hit a pothole, i was the second person. i pulled over with a flat about an hour ago and cars just keep coming in. with flats. >> contra costa public work officials say it has kept cruz busy. as the storm continues, more potholes are showing up. they say they don't fix them until the weather clears. >> what we are trying to do is take ad

this is from mount diablo. is just under 4000 feet high. this is probably at about 3500 feet. this is the only white stuff on the ground you're going to the in the bay area. if you or below 2000 feet, them overwhelming majority of us, it is hail. there is likely going to be more of that coming. the video we showed you earlier of ice , that was from the hailstorm that went through earlier this morning. if we look at first alert doppler, there are 20 of on-again off-again showers you are going to get more blue sky over the next two days than anything else there is always going to be the chance for an isolated shower and occasional storm to come through that is the forecast from now through wednesday. first alert doppler is just going to look like this. we have one coming in now. if we put it into the futurecast, i'm not going to focus on individual cells. i'm just going to let it go for the next few days most of the time you're not getting rained on but if you get one of those cells, it is a good little show. the snow level will climb over the next few days. anything that does c

mount diablo at 25 miles an hour, but that changes come the morning commute. ama: thank you, and the rain has been steady a few hours in parts of the north bay as some neighborhoods can barely take enough of it. abc seven news continues our live storm coverage in santa rosa. j.r.: before the storm, somewhat of a sprinkle in santa rosa, but it has been like this for much of the evening in the north. not a hard downpour, steady and slow rain at times. the concern are many of these hillsides. we were on cooper drive monday and you can see the hill is covered with tarps because the hillside is sliding. it has already caused this fence to buckle. two homes have been red tagged and there are concerns the hill will keep moving with another couple inches of rain. we spoke with those out and about monday night, everyone aware of the weather situation. >> ready for the sunshine and ready for the seasons to turn. i am definitely ready for it to be done with. >> we flooded last year, so the atmospheric river scares us a bit this year. we are prepared if it does flood. >>

so you can see more snow pack building on areas like mount diablo, as well as mount hamilton, mount saint helene, that up in the north bay sunday morning. we'll see our best chance of rain followed by some clearing conditions that afternoon. and as for the sierra nevada, it's a winter storm warning starting tomorrow through monday morning. we're going to be looking at snow piling up again. a couple feet of it, not near as much as what we saw earlier this week, but still adding to that significant snow pack that continues to just pile up up there at those upper elevations. temps today will be in the mid 50's for the most part, although a few of us rising into the upper 50's and even low 60's redwood city in palo alto at 58 degrees. san jose as well as campbell and santa clara, that 60 degrees for your daytime highs. pretty similar range of numbers for the east bay with the oakland at 57 walnut creek and concord, 59 for your daytime highs, fairfield in napa as well as santa rosa. all at 60 degrees. tomorrow's temperatures slide downward. our inland areas down from the low 60's to the low 50

this is what it looked like at mount diablo in the east bay. all that snow sticking because of how cold it was out there today. let's bring in meteorologist roberta gonzalez. roberta snow here also up in the sierra. absolutely mike and did his currently 33 degrees at the very tip top of mount diablo. it looks so pristine with all the snow locally. but how about this major snow totals in the high sierra? in fact, never before have i ever reported on these kind of totals? that's because it hasn't happened in the past 50 years overnight palisades tahoe north shore 18 inches of snow past 24 hours 38 inches of snow and in the past seven days 144 inches of snow that tallies up to 12 ft of fresh powder in the past seven days. other notable numbers diamond peak with just over 64 ft of snow there you have heavenly. how about kirkwood northstar, all with over nine ft of snow, and we have more more coming. in fact, the national weather service has already issued a winter storm watch that will go into effect for the high sierra saturday through monday with

mount diablo and you l covering the area there and let's go further up the mountain. now. meteorologist mark tamayo is tracking the storm conditions up in the sierra as well. hey, mark, andre? yes we've been hearing looks like conditions starting to improve in the sierra somewhat but still tracking some snow this afternoon. this was the view from homewood. just about a half hour ago. you can see looking out towards the lake here from tahoe's west short as we drop in some of the storm totals most of these numbers just with over the past week and look at palisades, this is a storm. total 12 ft of snow. that is just amazing. so these are just amazing amounts, tremendous amounts of snowfall. and of course, as we have been hearing, uh avalanche concerns will be the big time concern over the next several days is kind of wait for things to settle in the sierras. just be extra careful if you are heading to the mountains as things that gradually improved, at least in the short term. we're talking about some more rain and snow this weekend. here's a satellite right now is you can't

think that gauges entirely working up in mount diablo right now. but even down at the surface, 36 miles per hour at sfo. and that's why planes are having such a difficult time there. and look how widespread this is. 35 miles per hour in napa, you can see 28 in livermore. it is very dangerous. and that's why we're under this high wind warning. and it goes until 11 o'clock at night because we've got this horrible combinaiion of incredibly saturated ground and high when that means we haveancheswe have trees. we have all of that happening right now. it's a delayed reaction as all of that ground is full of so much water and all that has to do with that atmospheric river, which you can now see is kind of pointed to southern california as we start to get some clearing as far as our rain is concerned. but check out all of these storm reports of just about all of them are about trees or wires coming down. this one in santa cruz about 1 o'clock wires down a clubhouse road will head a little further north here to millbrae a downed tree on el camino ryall. and

we just a few pockets of heavy rainfall moving over mount diablo and now on up into solano county, lighter the north bay. but all this energy spreads further north in right in the heart of the morning commute between 7.38, to 09:30am, expecting some of our very heaviest of rainfall in one of our busiest times of day for our travel. now we will see pockets of sunshine into the afternoon. interspersed by dark clouds, chance of thunderstorm development and a resurgence of heavy rain. right in the midst of your evening commute tonight, along with our winds really picking up around this time. this is also going make for a rough drive home from work today. very heavy rain on already saturated soils. some very strong winds likely some to breeze trees falling into roadways, especially along the coast and up in our mountainous areas. showers continue overnight into tomorrow morning. and you add it all up in most urban areas will how well over an inch of rainfall, the santa cruz mountains, some models projecting as much as 6 inches of rain. that does happen. that would result in the worst of those f
