top gusts here was mount saint helena right around 5:00 this morning at 64mph. i haven't seen anything that gusty here in the past few hours at mount saint helena, but we still are clocking some strong winds, as you can see right now on the current gusts, most of the lower elevations 15 to about 20. so not a big concern for a lot of the populated zones up towards mount saint helena, though we're up to 39. mount diablo, with some strong winds coming out of the north here at 43. so the big headline here is, as we roll through tonight, we're still looking at some of these isolated gusts, 15 to about 35mph that still could get up there for the lower elevations and the mountains 40 to about 50. but look at how that wind calms down for tomorrow morning. it's only 3 to 18mph. we would continue to see that wind cacalming do through tomorrow afternoon and evening. so again, i think tonight we get through that and we're good to go here across the bay area. southern california likely going to stay under strong winds all the way through tomorrow evening. so here's the deal.

however, at the same time, higher up in elevation, we've got winds sustained at 37mph at mount saint helena, gusting to 45. and it's going to be this region, atlas peak, mount saint helena, the higher peaks there of the north bay, where we get those wind gusts picking up. and for a time some of that could get down into the valleys near santa rosa and petaluma as well. 4 a.m. to about 9 a.m. tomorrow, also a little blustery, near the coast and near san francisco early in the morning. right there around 7 to 8 a.m. and then wind speeds should start to come down as we head through the afternoon. so if you don't have the wind tomorrow morning, it's going to be cold, especially interior east bay and locations south of san jose, where over the next couple of mornings patchy frost is possible. and there you see it. 30s around for the colder valleys tomorrow morning where the wind is ongoing. 40s elsewhere. 40s to start the day closer to san francisco and oakland, but moving forward through the afternoon sunshine, a little less wind and mild temperatures by january standards. still mid 60s and the

mount saint helena up to 68. but these winds in southern california, they weren't just a one time thing, as we've been mentioning. this was for several hours on end, which is making this firefight pretty much impossible. so as we take you down to those current conditions here, we're tracking the two largest fires. we have the eaton canyon fire near altadena, also the palisades fire down here, the palisades fire, where we had winds of 80 to 90mph last night. it's now 15 to 35, so at least we're out of that highest threshold, but still very, very dry. hard to get in there. this will just continue with at least 15,000 acres burned up here towards the eaton canyon fire winds right now 15 to 35. this area last night also saw 70 to 80 mile per hour gusts. so the wind is down in this location from just about 12 hours ago. and the way the winds blowing looks like that fire would stay more in the ridge tops here above pasadena and above glendora. if it were to head more here off towards the south and also the east. so we'

mount saint helena still gusting at 52mph.ok outside in san jose once again all clear with temperatures in the upper 60s, and we'll see our temperatures holding steady here for the next several hours. cooling down quickly this evening and then across the bay area. we're seeing those temperatures in the upper 60s. here's a look at tomorrow's forecast, where we are going to see a slight cooldown in some spots, where we may see some fog developing and some rain just to our north. but unfortunately, we're not going to see any of that rain making it farther to the south, and it remains dry in the forecast through at least the next week. looking ahead temperature wise and the spotlight, morgan hill, where we are still very warm through friday. a slight cooldown for the weekend and it may be windy at times too, and then going ahead into next week it's going to be well above normal. we're usually in the upper 50s. we don't see that until wednesday. as the sunshine continues and our morning temperatures drop down into the upper 30s. ma

mount saint helena up to 60. mount diablo 53. everywhere else, it's five to about 25mph here in the bay area. i've got more checks coming up in just a few minutes. okay. thank you very much. well, you heard jess. jeff mention it right now. this wind is like anything a lot of people in socal have ever seen. that includes the firefighters to nbc's robert kovacik caught up with an l.a. fire captain who is leading this very difficult charge tonight. i got to ask you, first of all, friend to friend, how do you put this fire in all of our years of experience, one of the most challenging due to the most powerful winds that i can really remember. unfortunately, this spotted so quick in so many directions that we have to just move to evacuating people out of the way. it's simply impossible for us to completely stop the fire when it's this bad of winds. but you got to admit, man, this is one scary, scary day in southern california. this is one of the worst wind driven fires i've had the privilege of being on. you heard them. they're one of

mount saint helena right now 70 mile per hour winds. mount diablo 51. while it is breezy in a lot of the valleys, we are not seeing the kind of wind gusts they're seeing in socal. we have a wind advisory in effect, as we could see some of those gusts between 20 to 30 and gusts in the hills up to 50mph. that could bring down some trees. but we do have a big pressure gradient due to an area of low pressure just to our south and east, and as that creates the santa ana wind conditions in socal, we are going to see some really high wind gusts that will continue for a long period of time. so we're going to continue to see these gusts at 50 to 60mph. and once again, as we mentioned, they could reach 100 and some of those upper elevations. so we'll continue to watch that as well as the fire danger just to our south. and we'll talk about what we're expecting here in the bay area coming up. mike has a look at what you can expect to pay as you fill up at the pump, and it's a few cents more than the lows we started with yesterday. they rose a little bit, but we'll

mount saint helena reporting 35mph at this time. ier this morning, mount saint helena clocked 52mph. so those winds are going to continue to dry the air out here at home into the afternoon. napa reporting a wind gust to 32 shifting over towards the peninsula. not too bad at sfo 12mph, but the inner east bay. livermore reporting 28. santa clara valley, not part of the wind advisory. and you can see the winds there from mountain view over towards san jose. light rolling into the afternoon. do we do expect relative humidity to remain decent but still falling compared to yesterday, when we were near 100% getting into the evening hours. notice the winds still gusting 30, 40, 45mph and expected to continue during the overnight hours. the advisory goes until 10:00 tomorrow, and that's when we do expect the winds to begin to die down. still a little breezy for tomorrow, but nothing like what we're seeing out there for the afternoon today. meanwhile, temperatures now 70 degrees reported in novato, 68 in san francisco, mid 60s in walnut creek.

it is now at 63, in the north bay of mount saint helena. and all these areas where you're seeing the pink shading, we're getting at least 50 mile per hour winds right now, at least in a lot of the valleys near the coast. the wind is calming down. so for san francisco, it's going to be a very mild, sunny day actually. really nice. and we're headed for 64 degrees for a high temperature, 62, in martinez, as well as dublin and fremont and 66 in san jose. tomorrow is basically a repeat of today and maybe even slilightly warmer, up to 71 degrees in santa rosa. now, we're not supposed to be this warm for early januauary. usually we're in the mid to upper 50s for a high, so we're at least ten degrees above that in many parts of the inland valleys, high pressure continues. it keeps the storm track away from the bay area also, giving us these dry northerly winds. and there may be more wind possible going into the weekend as another quick moving low moves to the east, and that high pressure moves right overhead across the bay area. and when we talk ab

the highest wind gusts right now, mount saint helena at 74mph right now. so in the upper elevations, the wind is just roaring. and for the spots like mount diablo, it's at 47, while the valleys are at about 15 to 20mph for socal. we're seeing this disturbance that's moving through, creating those high winds, but also bringing in a little bit of rain. and that's where we are going to see those highest wind gusts moving through spots like malibu as well as calabasas. you can see there on the map there, those winds picking up 40, 50, 60mph, with the peak of the winds happening tomorrow morning and it's starting to wind down late tomorrow evening. so it will be windy at least through tomorrow afternoon for socal here in the bay area, we'll start to see thohose windsalming down a little bit sooner as early as tomorrow morning, so we'll continue to monitor that. mike's been looking around the bay area to see where you can fill up for a little bit less. yeah, things did change slightly yesterday i believe during the day and overnight. the lows we started with yest

really going to be going in the mountains tuesday morning. 50-mile-per-hour winds perhaps on mount saint helena. 40 perhaps for mount diablo. this will go down to diablo range. mount hamilton will have 30-mile-an-hour winds. we don't have any wind advisories, because if we take a look at what we'll be experiencing at the lower elevations where we all live, it's a breezy offshore wind but not terribly strong. not concerned about fire weather here. on the bigger picture there are concerns. southern california is very vulnerable to fire weather right now. and with the setup for them, they're going to have some strong santa ana winds on a landscape that is very dry. we've done okay for the winter so far up here. down in southern california, they have been much drier than average. watch what's about to happen. into early next week when we get winds on tuesday, this is what's going to cause that. see the time stamp here. a weak little storm. look at it spin for two to three days. let's just watch that period where you've got the system sitting out here and spinning its wheels. it's there. got to take

mount saint helena 63 still and 49, in mount diablo. some of the hills still still dealing with the gusty winds. and throughout the day it's going to gradually start to calm down. as far as temperatures, we're headed for the mid 60s, and this is much warmer than what's normal for early january, and it will be in the upper 60s and maybe even 71 tomorrow. so really warm temperatures that will continue into friday as well and then into the weekend. but we're seeing this area of high pressure dominating our weather, giving us the dry and offshore winds into next week. there's going to be another quick moving low dipping down that could create another high wind situation between sunday and monday, and for socal will really have to watch those areas very closely because they haven't had nearly as much rain as we've had. look at the disparity here from northern california, where we've had anywhere from 100 to 150% of our normal amount of rainfall for the water year, even double the normal amount for the santa rosa area. but then for southern c

mount saint helena this morning reported 52mph. we have areas near mount diablo this earlier today reported near 50mph. the relative humidity for us has dropped off dramatically since yesterday, but not critically low like it is over southern california. this, in addition to northern california, including the bay area, has received way more rain this season than southern california. southern california in most areas hasn't received any accumulation in months, so it is very dry and the winds are really creating some havoc out there. the pattern that is set up is pretty much for the entire state from the bay area. we've got that northeast flow. southern california also dealing with it. but the pressure gradient a little bit tighter there. and again that is what is really driving those winds. so for us the winds are going to continue into tonight with the wind advisory not expiring until tomorrow. right now in our hills of mount saint helena reporting 41mph, oakland north and south reporting 20 to 25. and you don't have to be in the hi

and we even had some very high wind gusts in the north bay at mount saint helena. and so we take a look at what the conditions were, as we're still seeing those santa ana winds that remain gusty through tomorrow morning. but it's also been very d, only measuring 0.16in of rain since october 1st, as well as the poor air quality. so people in the area, of course, of the fires have to wear an n95 masks. but when we compare the rainfall that we've had in northern california in the north bay, santa rosa has measured 26.07in of rainfall since the water year began, which is double the normal value. but for la, it's only 4% of average. as we talked about going back to the start of the water year, it will be very dry and continued the breezy winds into the afternoon 40, 50, 60 mile per hour winds throughout the day. and then looking at more of those winds into tomorrow morning, still remaining at about 20mph here in the bay areas fairly calm in the valleys, but some of our hills and mountains are still getting those high wind gusts that will continue throughout today. and a

we were experiencing diablo winds this morning, kicking up to nearly 70mph at mount saint helena, andbably will see the same again tonight, overnight. but look at these temperatures. we should be right around 58 degrees in redwood city, and we topped off 74 degrees. it was 72 degrees in santa rosa, mid 60s and throughout the tri valley when the average high temperature there is 57 degrees. live weather camera looking out towards the salesforce tower. not a hint of fog right now. we will see some fog developing. pretty dense in the north bay in the overnight hours. otherwise it's currently 42 degrees in livermore going down to 39 degrees overnight, so it will be cooler tonight than what it was last night. this massive area of low pressure. it's textbook perfect. look at the core, the center of it here. this is the frontal boundary. tossing some clouds into the pacific northwest. no rain in our western states today. what we're looking at is high pressure here. and remember the winds in a clockwise fashion around that high. then the area of low pressure over there. and that's countercloc

we are not going to have 50-mile-an-hour gusts on mount saint helena.this morning. so they'll kind of relax a bit and then pick up again on monday morning. and we'll see another push of stronger offshore winds. the same time southern california is feeling an increase in their winds as well. we don't have any fire weather concerns here. not only because these winds are not as strong as what they're going to experience but also because, as we've stated so many times, we've gotten more than enough rain from this winter that we are very well protected from any fire weather concerns at this point. so it's just the wind issue. slightly drier conditions. and drier conditions means we're going to be colder in the morning. let me remove the wind advisory, and let's talk about morning lows. we're going to spotlight the part of the bay that's going to feel this the most. north bay communities. these are tomorrow morning's lows, but each morning's going to get progressively lower until we get to about tuesday. so if this is sunday morning and you're going into the

strongest winds, but these are some of the reporting stations nearly 70 mile per hour winds atop mount saint helena this morning. other notable numbers. how about grizzly peak, 60 mile per hour winds in pleasanton, the sonoma ridge clocked a 54 mile per hour wind. there you have fairfield, sfo and livermore with 22 mile per hour winds. meanwhile, the winds ushered in some warmer conditions. today, it's indicative of an offshore push. we did have 74 degrees in redwood city, 70 in santa rosa. live weather camera not a cloud in the sky right now, but we will notice the formation of some fog over here and over there into the overnight hours as well as the delta. winds are calm right now. will be breezy tomorrow afternoon with that offshore. push northeasterly up to 20mph area of low pressure through some clouds into seattle today. but that high there, that low there. that's what's causing the strong santa ana conditions. and the setup for our local winds. you get the friction. you have the winds in a counterclockwise fashion around the center of the area of low pressure. then you have the winds and a c

look at mount saint helena 32. but we registered some 5060 plus mile per hour winds in some of those higher peaks. notice the rest of the bay area, a rather calm there. mount diablo at about 27mph. but for this area that you see highlighted in the yellow, this includes calistoga, parts of the north bay, there is a wind advisory in place until 1 a.m, so some of the strongest wind is going to happen in elevations above 1000ft. but it's still something to be mindful of over the next couple of hours. if you have anybody that lives up near that area now, satellite right now showcasing those clear conditions and audrey mentioned the chilly temps. get ready for that again tonight. we do have frost advisories that will go into place until 9 a.m. for tomorrow, but just how cold are we going to get? well, let's take a look at some of the model runs. i took this to about 7 a.m. we've got several 30s on the map to start our tuesday morning. look at this. 35 in livermore. so another chiy night. but we're going to look ahead. and

and then back here in the bay area, we had 64mph mount saint helena this morning.land hills also reaching 49. so while our wind will continue to decrease, it's here in southern california. the setup is going to be just right. unfortunately for them to get these santa ana winds back. so you can see most of southern california remains under these red flag fire warnings, winds up to 70mph all the way through the day on wednesday. then by 11 p.m. on wednesday, we would start to see that wind calming down here and certainly looking much better on thursday's forecast. no big rain chances the next two weeks for them or for us. so we're going to continue to be all over this. and we've got more reports at nbcbayarea.com. as we get a look at the overall weather pattern. what we're seeing is this area of high pressure. it's keeping the storm track way off to the north. and then we have that system sneaking in here from the south. and that's whatat's realy kicking up the wind in southern california. so as we roll through tomorrow's forecast with that clear weather back here, f

not in all of the wind, in fact, as you head up to mount saint helena, that's where we're seeing sustained winds of 43mph and still gusting up to 60. and i think it will be these same areas if you're around the diablo range out towards alamo, walnut creek into danville. you'll notice those gusty conditions again tonight as we see one more ramp up of those wind speeds around 11:00 tonight. then notice how the areas of red and purple start to fade away as we move forward into the afternoon. wind direction will be the same, just not as intense as that pressure gradient backs off the throttle to the winds. starts to come down as we head through wednesday afternoon. but the dry conditions, they're going to be ongoing for a while. as you see coming up in that extended forecast, watch out for some chilly conditions in the wind sheltered valleys. next couple of mornings could be waking up to upper 30s and low 40s, but we see the temperatures jump pretty good as we head into the afternoon. less wind tomorrow mid to upper 60s possible in san jose, and we'reikely to stay dry for a while as high press

they've done the same thing. 50-mile-an-hour gusts on mount saint helena.adn't gotten any rain here since we started the rainy season on october 1st, just like southern california, we'd be very concerned about this from a fire weather perspective. but thankfully, we've had enough rain, and we're doing okay. you might notice it's going to be a bit breezy on monday. i don't anticipate wind advisory-type winds here at home. here's southern california. watch what happens. get into monday, and there's that strong surge of offshore winds. 50 to 60-mile-an-hour winds over the mountains. this will go throughout the day on monday and probably linger into tuesday. of course, you also need to visualize the drier air. watch the brighter color showing the steep drop in humidity. you can visualize that dry air sweeping across l.a. monday into tuesday. they need to be on guard down there going into monday and tuesday. it'll be much like the last several offshore wind events that happened. they were able to get through those without any new fire starts. and fingers crossed

typically, mount saint helena gets the strongest wind around here, and you can see that wind gust of over 80 miles an hour for us. and that wind advisory, basically for a good portion of the bay area, is in place overnight tonight into your wednesday morning. the exception, though, it's not in place for the santa clara valley. so here's a look at the wind forecast in southern california. in general. we are showing you those those brighter colors into early tomorrow morning. and then throughout the day on wednesday, we will scale back on some of those wind speeds throughout the day tomorrow. but it is still a breezy to windy day. but the real intense winds happening right now tonight into early tomorrow morning. here's the satellite, a big amplified pattern setting up a big area of high pressure offshore. an area of low pressure down in southern california. they're getting the extreme winds. we have some winds picking up as well. look at napa right now gusting to over 40 miles an hour out toward half moon bay. winds gusting to 28 miles an hour. and we'll show you the current numbers w

and you'll see the only spot here with winds that are noteworthy is mount saint helena, still clocking in here out of the north at 30mph. all other locations five to about 15. so it was certainly very bumpy early this morning with a lot of gusts. if you're at 500ft and above, between 50 and 60mph, a little bit scary. but again, thankfully all of that is behind us and hopefully you don't have too much damage to clean up fro. right here in san jose, 68 degrees under mostly sunny skies. a little bit of a breeze here out of the northwest at ten. we have some 50s coming in as we roll through tonight down here across concord. also sunny skies and 65 notices. some chilly forty's rolling in at nine, ten and 11:00. and across san francisco, 64 degrees right now. and those 50s rolling in as we head into later on this evening. now we are going to be under some mostly clear s skies this evening, also into tomorrow, as we'll start it off with temperatures in the 40s, daytime highs coming in like this on your thursday forecast 69 in napa, 67 in concord, upper 60s right there in the south bay. we're

mount saint helena sustained winds 50mph as we switch over to the wind gusts. and look at that. still up to 70 mile per hour gusts. very different conditions above 2000 3000 or up to 4000ft there. and the altamont pass also seeing tse gusts at 42mph. all this keep in mind the hills, santa cruz mountains included, will have that wind advisory at least through mid morning tomorrow. wind speeds still pretty gusty as we head into the morning. hours there on sunday and the wind direction still dry. staying offshore as we head into monday, we'll lose the wind advisory sunday, but those dry winds will continue into the new week. so anothther thing we're going to watch will be these chilly mornings ahead. wind sheltered valleys. next few mornings will be dropping into the 30s around the north bay tomorrow morning, 40s and some near 50 degree temperatures around the inner bay to start the morning. now for the afternoon we got those temperatures starting to climb into the mid to upper 60s. various south of san jose, low 60s around san francisco and oakland, and for southern california. un

we'll see wind speeds of about 45 to 50 mile per hour gusts, maybe locally higher up near mount saint helena. and then as we head into monday night and tuesday morning, wind speeds do come down. so dayside tomorrow breezy and dry around the bay area. after that chilly start to the morning, most wind sheltered valleys waking up to the 30s tomorrow morning. then we'll see. breezy, dry conditions, more sunshine, which means a chance of 60s again around san jose, low 60s into san francisco and oakland. overall, the weather pattern not changing. this is the reason we're not seeing any rain. this continues to block incoming storms. what we get instead are cooler, windy, and dry weather systems that drop down on the eastern flank of that ridge of high pressure. we're hopeful this might scoop up a little bit of moisture, and at least bring a chance of showers closer to parts of california for the weekend, but right now looks mainly breezy and cool as we head into next weekend. so short term, watching the winds across the north bay hills for tomorrow, frosty temperatures next few mornings, a little w

with those gusts especially up there, mount saint helena at last check at around 50 miles an hour.that's verifying. and it could make it a little bit cooler there as we start the day and once more, we are not breaking out of the 50s. bay area wide, maybe a low 60 up there into santa rosa. so we'll see. we're going to keep that jacket around maybe throughout most of the day as we go on and get this weekend started and our workweek ahead, we should start to clear out. those cold mornings are going to continue once more through about the middle part of the week, but then another pattern change. here's that second shot of seeing more widespread rain and that seven-day forecast that i mentioned. we go on into next weekend, so if you're already thinking about next weekend, we're going to factor in the chance of some rain here coming in from the pacific so it could drag up a little bit more moisture compared to what we saw this weekend, and some sierra snow that will carry us through about maybe saturday, even sunday potentially. and this paints way more totals at an early run right now g

right now we're watching mount saint helena. you can see the gusts up to about 39mph. peak wind for us will be saturday morning through about midday. then notice in the sunday forecast those wind speeds do start to come down. morning temperatures for saturday a little breezy out there to start the day. temperatures in the 40s. and as we pass lunchtime upper 50s to low 60s and highs tomorrow mid 60s around san jose. not too windy around the santa clara valley. really. it's the hills that will be dealing with those gusty winds. now here's the problem for southern california once again, sort of a nonstop onslaught of these gusty offshore winds. you got more monday into tuesday right now. right now, even all the way through wednesday, those dry offshore winds are expected to continue in southern california. and the culprit is the same reason why we're staying dry in the bay area. high pressure off to our north and west. occasionally areas of low pressure dropping into our east. that is maintntaininghe dry pattern and unfortunately, a very windy one across southern californ
