i'm monique moyer and it is my pleasure to serve as the director of the port of san francisco. the port of san francisco is san agency that is now 149 years old. it has assets that are older than everyone in this room by far and some of us like myself are already starting to feel that pain. we have been a city agency now for 40 years. it has been 50 years since an investment of this magnitude has been made in the port's assets. the port was build by the port, by the workers of the state of california with one exception the ferry building. every other pier, 55 of them were built by the men and women and the engineers and the maintenance people who work for the state. 50 years is and i credably long time to not make a significant public investment in the port. and so you are here at a watershed moment. the crew ship terminal project is an extremely important investment. it is a public investment in our port. it comes with our same only in san francisco brand that is, it is a maritime activity married with an event activity, not just the america's cup but everything that will come

bill moyer described judge johnson as -- and said that he altered forever the face of the south. burke marshall who served in the kennedy justice department said that these four judges, dr. speck mentioned them, including judge johnson, have made as much on american society and american law that the supreme court has ever done in history. if you look at these kinds of appointments and the consistency that president eisenhower put on the court, it's no surprise that someone like earl warren was put in charge of the chief justice of the supreme court. i have my theory about where the tension came from but dr. specht did a wonderful job of explaining the context and i want to give you an idea of what our court system was like during this period. my father's mentor was a man by the name of charles hamilton houston who became dean of howard law school where he mentored my father and a number of lawyers in the civil rights unit. he was clearly a brilliant thinker and tremendous law student at harvard. to give you a clue as to how much of a pioneer and how brilliant this man was, in 193

is we have come to terms on a new 10-year lease that we're negotiating with our assistant director moyer, the deputy assistant director, and great assistance from this woman standing here, and backed up by susan reynolds. this was a team effort. it was not in need one person going out and doing this. it was a cooperative effort. i would not say it was an easy effort. bauer's is anxious to get into the new facilities. that is why we have the law license agreements. they will be able to assist us in our needs. so, i will walk you through. i will take you through the lease agreement, and then i can summarize the likeness agreements. in your staff report, there's a pretty comprehensive detailed proposal sheet that we put together, and outlines the term, the square footage, and the use. to use is going to be for the storage, for the maintenance, and for the dispatch to corporate headquarters. this is their site. they will have, in order to get in discussions with bauer's, one of the key things we have tried to do is ramp up to this threat level. they have 36,000 square feet of shed space. the
