i will start by just thanking director moyer and her staff for the collaboration of the last couple of years. i think the relationship is probably stronger than it's ever been. i think there is a great working relationship at the staff level. i want to particularly thank diane and byron and brad and gill kelly who is the assistant director for planning for their collaboration and all the work we're doing together which i think is to the benefit of all of us and certainly to the future of the waterfront so to my three items. in terms of growth to the city it's no surprise to anyone here and all the cranes happening that the city is changing. it's growing at a rate not seen since world war ii. the population growth, the visitor growth and job growth are growing at unprecedented levels of the last century. the abag projections had us growing between 2010 and 2040 by 100,000 new households or 200,000 people and 160,000 new jobs. what is interesting the last five years has seen a lot of that growth already happen so we have seen about 10,000 people per year in terms of population. the city

reporter: this radio transmission was end of the long, tense process to make contact with michael moyer from gaylord, michigan. data from flight aware.com shows he took off around noon from gaylord in a moon i m20 single engine main similar to the one in this picture. within 22 minutes he rose to 5,000 feet above the earth and for two hours there were no radio transmissions. this unusual behavior caused norad to scramble two f-16 fighter jets. >> when aircraft failed to respond to controllers, we launched, fortunately at a time we were able to get visual of the aircraft itself. it had already started its downward spiral in the atlantic ocean. >> reporter: crash happened 2:45 p.m. and coastguard responded within minutes. mike gibson was senior duty officer at the the time of the crash. >> the weather did present a problem an hour and a half in the search. the there was a thunderstorm to the south that was moving up toward their location with lightening. that caused them to come along. they used that fuel and wait forstrom to pass and got right back out. >> reporter: crews found a tire, s
