firstly, this what can you tell us about mr leonard? that most people expected. it was a long contest at times, at dit was a long contest at times, at dit was bitter pitting richard leonard against anas sarwar. richard leonard isa against anas sarwar. richard leonard is a former union official and a member of the labour party for 35 yea rs, member of the labour party for 35 years, but for the majority of that period, he has had a very low profile. he was elected to holyrood last year. but he is a former union official and as such, coming from the left wing of the party, he is a strong supporter ofjeremy the left wing of the party, he is a strong supporter of jeremy corbyn. he was pitched against anas sarwar, who was viewed as a more moderate alternative. so in that sense, that vision for the labour party has come to the forefront with what was ultimately a clear victory for richard leonard as the polls closed yesterday. both candidates said, things are too close to call. but it was a clear and decisive victory for richard leonard. the q

mr leonard, who's backed by most trade unions, replaces kezia dugdale who resigned in august.victory speech, he called for "a vision for the future — and a vision for hope again." our scotland editor, sarah smith, reports. applause. electing richard leonard as their leader marks a left turn for the scottish labour party. he says his victory means they will now follow a more radical agenda. there is now a settled consensus established around a radical policy agenda for the scottish labour party of extending public ownership, tackling inequality and poverty, a more progressive taxation system. applause. hello, ben, it's richard leonard... richard leonard was only elected to the scottish parliament last year. he is a yorkshireman who has spent his adult life working in scotland as a trades union organiser and he is a committed corbyn loyalist. there are times in the past where it has appeared that the scottish labour party has looked to pick fights with jeremy corbyn. i certainly will not be doing that. we cannot afford the luxury of splits and divisions. we need to work together

mr leonard beat the party's health spokesman anas sarwar by around 3000 votes — securing overwhelming unions. the leadership contest was triggered by the surprise resignation of kezia dugdale in august. mr leonard said he intended to follow a radical agenda — pushing to extend public ownership and introduce a more progressive taxation system. comrades, what this leadership election has shown is that a reinvigoration of our politics in scotla nd reinvigoration of our politics in scotland is both needed and yearned for by the people. we need a vision ofa for by the people. we need a vision of a better future, for by the people. we need a vision of a betterfuture, a vision for by the people. we need a vision of a better future, a vision of hope again, so that 20 years on, since the devolution referendum we need to restate our scottish labour vision for the economic, social and environmental transformation we want to deliver for the people of scotland. and so reinvigorate the very reasons why the labour party campaigned forand, very reasons why the labour party campaigned for and, let's n

former congressman leonard boswell who misses this institution and gave great service and i know he sends his best. and i want to thank my colleague, mr. banks from indiana, for making sure we always are continuing with oversight of these important programs to help our veterans. you know, in 2015, the v.a. did an o.i.g. report, inspector general report, and found there were some failures in the veterans crisis line, and so there were informational failures. sometimes the people answering the phone at the v.a. who are good people and want to help our veterans didn't have all the information they may need. there's a lack of timely responsiveness at some points. so the v.a. committee here, the veterans' committee here in the house did some oversight and found out we need to fix this. i introduced a bipartisan bill with my colleagues that passed unanimously in 2016, the no veterans crisis line call should go unanswered act, to work with the veterans affairs department to make sure we knew what they needed to get the job done, working in partnership across the aisle and with the vafment. the bill passed -- v.a. the bill passed unanimously.
