this is regarding job creation, mr. mayor. according to information provided by the mayor's office of economic and workforce development, san francisco's human services agency and the economic work force the bill -- i said that. started. at $25 million in federal stimulus funds available from may 2009 until september 2010 to use port jobs and now placement programs. with these funds, hsa was able to provide job services to over 4000 low-skilled or unemployed san franciscans in less than a year-and-a-half. city data also indicates the sense federal funding stimulus ran out over a year ago, they have only been able to serve approximately 550 san franciscans in these programs annually, a significant decrease. what level of funding for these programs do you propose in the upcoming budget to the full year campaign pledge of job training and creation? mayor lee: thank you, supervisor. first of all, let me congratulate you on your election. supervisor mirkarimi: thank you. mayor lee: i look forward to working for -- and working with y

i want to thank again mr. mayor, president chiu for the early vision and leadership in this program and sfmta and city administrator's office, who's been a pleasure to work with operationally. we're very excited about the launch of this pilot program for a number of reasons, not the recent of which raises profile of car sharing. one of the aspects is making it more visible in the community with the very prime locations and congested neighborhoods and also makes it more accessible for people because many of our what we call pods, which are where cars are located or private garages or public garages and they're not as visible to the community. in these dense neighborhoods, car sharing does a couple things. number one, it puts people into a shared diesel experience and they rely more on other public forms of transportation, walking, biking, which is all to the good, more liveable and environmentally conscious city. alone last year, our members saved 40 million to 60 million pounds of co 2, which is astonishing given we

as you know, mr. mayor, the san francisco municipal transportation agency work orders total $60 million to other city departments for services, including services that may not have a direct connection to public transit, and one example of that -- we are well aware a significant portion of that money goes to fund the motorcycle fleets for the san francisco police department. clearly, that fleet is an important -- plays an important part in the life of the city and should be funded. the question is whether it should be funded by the mta. would you commit today -- i know it is difficult to get any of us to commit to something of this type -- but would you commit to reducing the amount of work orders by least 20% by fy2011- 2012 so the mta will have more money to increase transit services for all riders? mayor lee: thank you for your work on the mta. i agree needs to find a way to achieve cost sufficiency is for muni, but i do not know reducing mta work orders is the way to do it. a work order is simply an agre

mr. mayor, nice to talk with you. thanks for coming on. >> good morning and thank you. >> i am curious, you heard what governor romney said about the policy preference he would have preferred while i know sudden weren't involved in the intricate decisions, do you think there was a private entity that was available to lend the auto makers $40 billion at a moment in march of 2009 when the world credit markets were in turmoil? >> absolutely not. i think bush and our president today did the right thing. i've been in detroit now for about 45 years. i was a supplier in the automotive industry. there's no doubt in my mind if the government didn't step in to save those two companies, there's no way they would have survived. we would have lost over 14 or 15 million jobs across this sun. that was -- you just couldn't let that happen. >> mr. mayor, you have an interesting challenge that you have taken on, and you've talked about some drastic things you have to do with the city, namely doing something we haven't seen cities do in

[applause] >> thank you, mr. mayor. ave the president of the police commission. >> it is great to see the collaboration between the commission, the mayor's office, the police department, the district attorney's office. it will increase the expertise our officers have. it will streamline the process in terms of managing the units. we're looking at losing a lot of officers to retirement. this is an excellent idea to train them in new areas. we owe it to the precious crown jewels of our city. this is a great place for children to come and a great place for women to feel comfortable. i know the most domestic violence cases, the victims may decide not to cooperate. the results are sometimes tragic. i want to thank the mayor and police department for taking a big step in leading the state and country and how we handle these issues. thank you.
