i want to thank again mr. mayor, president chiu for the early vision and leadership in this program and sfmta and city administrator's office, who's been a pleasure to work with operationally. we're very excited about the launch of this pilot program for a number of reasons, not the recent of which raises profile of car sharing. one of the aspects is making it more visible in the community with the very prime locations and congested neighborhoods and also makes it more accessible for people because many of our what we call pods, which are where cars are located or private garages or public garages and they're not as visible to the community. in these dense neighborhoods, car sharing does a couple things. number one, it puts people into a shared diesel experience and they rely more on other public forms of transportation, walking, biking, which is all to the good, more liveable and environmentally conscious city. alone last year, our members saved 40 million to 60 million pounds of co 2, which is astonishing given we

mr. mayor it, seems to me the president doesn't know what to do about high gas prices, or am i wrong. >> the president knows plenty to do and he has been doing that he has pursued an all of the above strategy. we do need to increase production. it's the highest level since 2008. we do need to limit the amount that comes into this country and lowest level in 10 years. we need to make sure that we he do things that are important like allow some new drilling in this country but we can't put our head in the sand and pretend all we have to do is just keep consuming. the president has done a lot to try to limit consumption and we have to be smarter about what we do. >> bill: all right, mr. mayor, you say the president has done a lot, all right? but he has failed because the gas prices are the highest ever in history at this at thise of year. and the supply in the united states is high because of the mild winter. so, what the president has done all encompassing thing that you and mr. carney has mentio

. >> so good morning and welcome mr. mayor, mr. council general. everybody.t's great to see such a great crowd here for what for us is an extremely important event. my name is ed reiskin. i'm the transportation director here in san francisco and very pleased to welcome you all here this morning for what we expect will be a very lively and productive couple of days here in san francisco. the san francisco m.t.a. is the agency that's charged with implementing the city's transit first policy, which is about getting people out of their cars and into more sustainable modes of transportation, such as bikes, such as walking and transit in our great muni system. as someone who myself gets around the city often by bike, and i do that by choice, but more importantly, i'm given the charge of our agency to get folks out oaf their cars. i can't tell you how exciting it is for me to think all of the brain power and enthusiasm for cycling that's in this room are going to spend the next two days working with us to help us figure out how we can do every -- even better. althou

[applause] >> thank you very much, mr. mayor. it's indeed to -- exciting to be here as council general of san francisco in this beautiful city, especially on a day like today. it's really great. you've been in amsterdam. in 1969 i learned and have reason for you to come back to that beautiful city soon. i'd love to work with you on a relationship between amsterdam and san francisco because there's so much in common between the two cities. and a lot of things that san francisco can learn from san francisco and the other way around. and my hope for these two days is that we will have something out of it as well and i'm sure we will have something out of it as well. and you probably will not remember amsterdam in the 1960's and the 1970's. i'm old enough to remember amsterdam in the 1970's and it was all different at that time. there was a lot of congestion, a lot of cars in town and it changed. it changed by changing the culture, changing policy and implementation of policies with hard work and i think hillie talens will show some

thank you, mr. mayor, at the inauguration of our new mayor, ed lee. >> he is here. >> the first chinese-american mayor of san francisco. this is quite a remarkable thing. we're very proud of him. i was just with him, so he's probably taking the longer route into this room. but at that time, and you will tell him i said this, that day summed up all san franciscans. he spoke of taking challenges, embracing risks and embrace to all those gathered today. when you come to washington, you bring with you the hopes, the aspirations and the priorities of the american people. when you speak, congress and the president listens. because mayors confront our country's challenges at the ground level. as was mentioned, my father and my brother were mayors. ha there is no buffer between a mayor and his or her con stastate. pay the bills and put food on the table. every day you see impacts made on the lives of working families. mayors recognize that investments in our cities and education and job training and clean energy,

, mr. mayor, does that about sum it up? >> you got that right.you put a smile on my face but his tax plan doesn't. it's the same old trickle down economics we've gotten from the republicans for years. and we are tired of being trickled on. this takes care of the rich. takes care of people like romney. he doesn't want an inheritance tax because he wants to pass on all that wealth to his children. we need to be taxing wealth and not work in this country. and working people under his plan continue to be punished. so there's a lot not to like in the plant. it would end medicare as we know it. it continues the paul ryan approach to taking apart medicare. so there's nothing for our older americans to like about it. we need a plan that promotes the middle class, that promotes working people, that builds our economy. this whole republican primary, rev, has really been a cacophony of crap, to be frank. >> you know, what is so interesting to me is everyone except conservatives seem to see how the auto bailout really was a good idea. i mean, look at these n
