following press reports of egregious misconduct by federal judge chief justice roberts asked mr. duff to support this working group. i support many of the proposals. perhaps most importantly they have made clear that it is the responsibility of the judges to ensure that there is a safe and respectful workplace in every courthouse and in every chamber. for too long the judiciary has had a not my chambers not my business culture. this is not acceptable as the working group acknowledges. in my view the working group reports does not go far enough and many recommendations are still quite vague. i wanted to highlight a few steps that i think are necessary to effect lasting change. first they operate fairly autonomously but that autonomy helps to conceal abuse and harassment. the administrative office of the u.s. court and the judicial council should exercise more active oversight to ensure that every circuit is addressing these issues. second the judiciary must address how allegations of harassment are going to be investigated. if employees do not have faith that reports of harassment
