mr. putin, which we have not seen to date, we should impose maximum sanctions against russia. north korea, secretary pompeo not go to north korea in response to a letter. one of the step -- what is the status of those talks? >> we have little information on this. we have one hearing in our committee, not a very in depth hearing. we do know i do support diplomacy to try to resolve the crisis on the korean peninsula as it relates to the nuclear north korea. there are other issues with north korea shut. there are human -- with north korea. there are human rights violations and other issues involved. we have yet to see any real progress. the president had a nice photo op in singapore, but we did not see any specific progress made to north korea giving us a full accounting of their nuclear program and having a way to eliminate it. that is what we need to see. they for is any more photo ops, let's see real progress on north korea's actions to get rid of the nuclear weapons. david: this is a week of mourning. there is a proposal that we should rename the russell building after senator mccain. connecticut done? >>

mr. chairman. i thought are hearing with secretary pompeo was extraordinary and i wish it had gotten more attention. chiefly, in the argument that the secretary was making to us, that we should ignore what the president says and pay attention only to what the state department does, and we're hearing a strain of that today. but the argument is extraordinary, because it essentially admits that there are two different american foreign policies today. one articulated by the president in a statement that he makes standing next to president putin or on his twitter feed. just yesterday to reuters, the president once again said it might not have been the russians that interfered in the u.s. elections. and then i would argue there is the much more mainstream foreign policy being administered in part by the two incredibly patriotic representatives of the american government standing here today. and so, i wanted to pose a question i guess to you, secretary mitchell. in the context of how this plays out on the issue of propaganda, building off the question that senator portman asked you, you have gone and work
