mr. walker? >> chairman mccaskill, members of the subcommittee, i am larry walker, president of the louis berger group. i appreciate the opportunity to provide perspectives on the highway project and our observations concerning reconstruction projects in afghanistan. it is an international consulting firm of approximately 3000 employees around the world. we provide expertise including engineering, program and construction management, and economic development services. many projects are carried out in some of the most challenging regions of the world. obg first began working in afghanistan in the 1970's and was one of the first to enter afghanistan after the september 11 attacks. i worked mainly with restructuring of the afghanistan infrastructure. we have provided nearly 40 house jobs to afghanistan people and trained thousands more. we have constructed more than 90 schools. the improved road network has dramatically decreased transit times, which has spread economic development along the road co

he's three hundred thousand members are walking out of a proposed reforms to the pension scheme mr walker thanks for talking to r.t. today now this is possible to plan to cut public spending in this country just how drastic are these cuts going to be gives an impression of what they might mean for the biggest that most people will have seen in their lifetime. i mean half a million jobs lost in the public sector six hundred thousand jobs in the private sector as a direct result we're seeing changes in the delivery of welfare cuts in funding of education for for young people and also a tax on people's pensions in addition to that in many of the communities up and down the country will see libraries close cuts in social care services everything that people have taken for granted over years is ultimately. you seem to see these cuts in terms of rights and wrongs almost a moral position but isn't there a bottom line that has to be respected for example they didn't reform and soon it looks like they might not be able to afford teachers or nurses. in greece this is the fifth largest economy in th

mr. walker's message obviously is not a fun one. it's not a message that you would expect people to like to hear. it's not a message that promises more spending on people's preferred programs. yet, my constituents were eager to hear this message. why is that, mr. president? well, one, he was honest. he was honest about the size of our problem, about the scope of our unfunded liabilities, about the causes of this deficit -- that it is primarily, primarily a spending-driven crisis; about the effect of the health care law and health care spending in this country, and about the measures that are needed to cut spending and to bring the budget back into balance. sunlights appreciate that kind of honesty, mr. president. they appreciate someone telling them the truth, not continuing to make promises that cannot be kept. and, two, they were eager to hear his message because his message offered hoavment he pointed out that if the country adopt add fiscal plan that would bring down our deficits on a level that was similar to the president's fi
