mr. anderson just had a private meeting with pope benedict xvi just last december. a few weeks ago, mr. anderson. what can you tell us about the meeting? >> i can say that his reasonings, his interaction as it always been. from my experience there was no slowing down of his inelect wall capabilities or faculties. it is surprising the announcement today. jenna: physically did you observe anything? we heard the report from his brother maybe with difficulty walking. anything that you noticed. >> that has been very obvious for many of the masses he has attendedded, the audiences he is slowing down physically in terms of that. he may believe that the rigorous kind of intellectual life that he has lived, work days of 10, 12 hours a day, may be, he is believing now what he said several years ago on the book that he wrote that when the pontiff, the pope, begins to slow down, physically or intellectually he should think about resigning and now he has done that. jenna: it is an unusual move as we mentioned. when you look over history of the catholic church as someone that works in coordination wit

mr. anderson testified there would be no hub closure and the merger would maintain international flights. he went further to say we can expect more international flights and suggest the memphis to paris is going to happen and more flights and enhance the status of traffic and service at the memphis international airport. he said it would add not delay take away from the memphis international airport. he said he knew memphis when northwest he loved the ribs, the city, he knew how great the airport and managed it was. how the time on the tarmac and taking off was less. they saved oil and the best connections they could have. those facts were true. his response was not. i ask u.s. air and america to look at his statement and understand the memphis international airport is a place they should be and when others airlines didn't come to memphis. it u.s. airways did. they added more flights for a price. we like that competition. when frontier airlines thought about coming to memphis. northwest cut the prices. that eliminated the opportunity for frontier to come in. later people expressed interes

mr. anderson said it wouldn't. atlanta didn't suffer. why did i to escape the great recession? >> obvious reason, traffic, still a lot of traffic. >> they routed from memphis to a letter that was simply do. that wasn't the great recession. that was anderson's decision. >> the country didn't stop flying during the great recession. the country still flew and it was still flying as it normally does in the big hub areas. that's something that is sort of overlooked in this, is that again, most of the travel, you know, 75% of the, it's in large hub routes. new york-l.a., chicago-san francisco, d.c.-new york. you go through those and you have most of the travel unfortunate in this country where you have a lot of competitors and that's where the airlines want to be. i mean, unfortunately, or fortunately, there are other places to go, but it's a much, much smaller part of the system and it's very vulnerable than to changes in what's going on in the macro economy and so on and so forth. but atlanta is on the quoted -- landed. memphis, unfortunately it isn't. >> it wasn't because of the g

mr. dorner himself. and our anderson cooper spoke about the package that he received last night.. >> the suspect christopher dorner reached out to me directly, mailing a parcel to my office that arrived on the first of the month. inside he found a hand labeled dvd accompanied by a post-it note reading in part "i never lied." he says this dvd confirms his story, the story that he says got him initially. also in the package a coin wrapped in duct tape, the tape bearing the inscription thanks but no thanks. on the top of the duct tape, there's an abbreviation. we thoughave looked at it closed it appears to be the number one with a space and then the letter m.o.a. could stand for one minute of arc. you can see the bullet holes. another shot nicked off the top. that's the coin that was part of this parcel. and as i mentioned, i was made aware of this parcel just today as was the editorial staff of my program and also cnn management. and obviously upon learning of its existence, cnn alerted both chief braden and law enforcement. bill braden is the former new york commissioner and l.a.'

anderson is fighting for his life. >> i was basically only able to see shadows. i decided i was going to have to shoot him before i went unconscious, and that's when i shot mr.. >> i didn't so much hear the first felt shot, i felt it. i felt the concussion of it going through my chest. >> weekly mistakenly believes that he might have been shot. >> at that point, kind of freak out mode trying to figure out, okay, who just shot who. >> and then i pulled the trigger a second time, and then it seemed like right after that, he was just gone. he just disappeared. >> get down on the ground! get on the ground! >> shot twice in the chest, mallory stumbles in front of the cruiser and collapses. >> i saw officer anderson out of the corner of my eye, and i was shocked to see him up and walking towards mallory. >> at that point officer anderson kind of collapsed on top of mallory. >> first thing i noticed was his missing eyebrow, and my concern at that point was with his injuries and making sure he was okay. >> are you okay? >> i don't know. >> backup units arrive on scene. officer anderson and mallory are transported to the hospital. anderson is treated for a concussion
