mrs. bush holding an aids baby. now, have you to remember at that time for a lot of people didn't understand that you could hold a baby, hug a child with aids and that it wouldn't -- you wouldn't catch it, but there was this stereotype, so mrs. bush in her role went out to grandma's house in washington, d.c., and, unfortunately, that poor guy only lasted another couple of weeks. broccoli, yeah. now, someone we all know and love happened to mention that he didn't like broccoli so the mother of america had to go out there and reassure all the children that broccoli is good and good for you. and you'll notice that she did that with the oval office right in the background which i thought was pretty cheeky. after the election president bush was honored at an armed -- by the armed services at a salute at ft. myers, and it was an incredibly moving event. there wasn't a dry eye anywhere to include miraculously the press that was -- that had tears running down their eyes. but then life takes funny turns, and we have governor

mr. chairman, i'll make an attempt to do that. had i been here, i would have supported the so-called dream act now. i supported immigration reform that is orderly, safe, and legal and does create a pathway, not amnesty, a pathway. there are numerous examples here of people -- i serve on the arizona board of regents. we govern the three universities' eight appointed members. we have constantly had the problem of these people coming to their presidents and some of them petitioning members of the board of regents to grant them some kind of exemption. some way to stay in school. and our legislature put forward legislation that says they had to pay out of state tuition if they're going to stay here and they're not deported under sb-1070. it has caused immense pain and suffering in the latino community. i know many of them. and, you know, as long as we're on the subject matter, my distinguished colleague former senator pearce will tell you it is not profiling. it is profiling. police officers tell you that, that they feel it's profiling

in dan tank lee knee and i can say from my own personal experience that it was an appointment made for this situation. mr. tanklyny has been the administrator for the district of columbia. he's done the same thing at metro. here's an administrator not only with impeccable management skills but also impeccable ethics. but you see what you have laid out for you to do. i have one question about these conferences. we are focusing on tell working and we're having finally some progress in getting tell working. i don't know about teleconferencing. i do want to say this also for the record. as somebody who manages people right now in the congress and managed much r more people in propositions in my life, i value what face to face meetings can do. my own staff is in the same city, but the district office staff and there are two district offices and the congressional office staff don't have face to face meetings that often but they have telephone meetings and of course, it's a much smaller staff than you would have in an agency. they have telephone meetings every monday morning. i don't know enough about the value
