mr. barrasso: mr. president. the presiding officer: the senator from wyoming. mr. barrasso: thank you, mr. president. i come to the floor today to once again give the facts about the democrats' one-size-fits-all health care proposal. the legislation that many democrats are referring to as medicare for all. my focus said is what's going to happen to american patients if the government fakes full control of our nation's health care system. now, i speak as a doctor who practiced medicine for 24 years in casper, wyoming. it's so interesting as a doctor to take a look at what is being proposed because i know the specifics of the impacts on the lives of patients, patients i have taken care of as part of my training and part of my practice in wyoming, and as a doctor also who has personally studied what's happening to health care in other countries around the world. we have no doubt heard about the worsening crisis of care in england. there are doctor shortages and of course there is rationing of care. british rationing has actually become the focus of a recent article in

mr. barrasso: thank you, mr. president. mr. president, i'm here today to talk about america's highway infrastructure. it's important to every state and i have just come back from wyoming. it clearly is home and important in my home state and every community. it's important in every tribe in the country. and i see that week after week in wyoming. our roads, our bridge, our highways, our tunnels, they support america's economic growth and our competitiveness. mr. president, you know that as well from your home state of missouri. these are an essential part really of everyday life for all of america. so we use the infrastructure, we use the roads, the bridges, the tunnels. we use them when we drive to work, when we head to school, or we head off to summer vacation. our economy is built on a well-functioning road system that allows products from rural areas to get transported to population centers. they're used to ship american-made products and goods from one coast to the other. certainly in wyoming we see a lot of goods coming in

joining us, senator john barrasso, republican from wyoming. you're smiling, mr. senator.s there any chance at all that if president trump doesn't like what mueller is saying, he could just get angry and blow up the budget deal? >> well, a couple of things. one, as you know, i will be meeting with a number of senators with the president today at the white house, and i'm sure all of these things will be topics of discussion. but this mueller thing, this is all about the democrats beating the drum for impeachment. that's what they're calling for. you have the majority of the presidential candidates calling for impeachment on the democrat side, you have 80 members of the house wanting to move to impeachment, you have nancy pelosi saying the president belongs in prison. that's what this is about. to me, the case is closed. the evidence is in, no collaboration, no collusion, no coordination. we need to get this behind us. this is just the democrats trying to take this into overtime. it's not going to work. stuart: you are going to get five hours of testimony, every minute of it

stuart: we are going to bring in senator john barrasso, republican from wyoming, who was with the president at that event yesterday. mr and tell us what is the president's version of a green new deal? >> well, i will tell you, stuart, the green new deal is a big green bomb that will blow a hole in our strong and healthy and growing economy. the president is right. you need to have economic growth at the same time that you have respect for the environment and we have seen that with this administration, getting the balance right. it's not one or the other. you can have both. you need to have both. and the best way to have a clean and safe and healthy environment is to have a strong growing and healthy economy. stuart: i see this as a political problem, because all round the world, when climate change legislation has been voted on, it's been voted down because a lot of people do not wish to sacrifice for some vague idea of a gain tens of years into the future. i don't think people are prepared to sacrifice for climate change. what say you? >> well, i agree with you. there are things we can actually do and are working in

mr. barrasso: mr. president, i ask unanimous consent to be able to complete my remarks on this nominee before the vote. the presiding officer: without objection. mr. barrasso: thank you, mr. president. mr. president, today the senate is considering the nomination of peter wright to serve as the assistant administrator of the environmental protection agency for the office of land and emergency management. if confirmed, mr. wright will lead this critical e.p.a. office that provides policy, provides guidance, provides direction for the e.p.a.'s emergency response and waste programs. mr. wright will play a crucial role in helping the agency respond to disasters and cleanups. the office of land and emergency management oversees the superfund program, which is a priority for this administration. there are currently about 1,300 listed superfund sites across america. on top of these there are 450 brownfield sites that need to be addressed. the e.p.a. needs an assistant administrator in place to prioritize thes
