mr. barrett has ever been. the main democratic challenger against him was kathleen faulk. endorsed barrett immediately and labor has gotten behind mayor barrett as well. yesterday's primary turnout was the highest since 1952, and anti-walker votes outnumbered pro-walker votes by 55,000. however, no one expected walker's republican primary opponent to win in an upset. so many republicans may have just stayed home. we'll have to see. democrats shouldn't get too complacent over all of these numbers. in the actual recall election, turnout on both sides is expected to be far higher. let's turn to wisconsin state senator lina taylor, who has been on the front lines since day one. she was one of the wisconsin 14 that left the state that pretty much got the ball rolling. you know what's interesting about all of this, lina, and great to have you with us tonight, is that collective bargaining does not poll very well in wisconsin. and the labor-favored candidate did not win last night. how do you break that all down? what does it mean? >> well, first of all, ed, this is about not just

mr. barrett joins me tonight. >> good to have you with us. thanks for watching. president bush famously asked the question, are our children learning? mitt romney, are we making enough money off them? mitt romney visits a charter school about success of for profit education. >> i'm told about the success of these institutions you helped found and this institution in particular and would love to get your privilege on what makes it work. >> there are real questions about whether charter schools are working including the one romney visited today. the universal blu ford charter school in philadelphia was put on warning status last year. only 27% proficient in math and 22% proficient in reading. the objectives or 72% in reading and they are behind. romney told the audience classroom size, it has nothing to do with school performance. the teachers he spoke with today took issue with romney's logic. >> i can't think of any teacher in the whole time i've been teaching 10 years, 13 years, who would say they would -- more students would benefit them. >> of course,. >> i ca

mr. barrett's plan to come back? how do you see this? turning in your favor? >> well, governor walker, of course, traveled the country and collected money from very far right-wing extremists. he does have a huge advantage. but as paul harvey said, for the rest of the story, money is blowing in. mayor barrett is closing the gap in the number of ads and i predict as we move closer to the election, you will see the polls be razor tight. >> reporter: let's talk about, even democrats, it would appear, seem to be losing their interest in this recall fight. how do you see it? >> i don't think so at all. i think you are going to see armies of people, pounding the pavement, this coming weekend, memorial day and then that last weekend before the election. people are still very energized. and i think you are going to see a huge turnout t. will be very interesting. some are predicting, you could have turnouts with the presidential election levels. we feel our values are at stake. we feel that wisconsin values have been disregarded and we have moved in a far right-wing dir

the winner of last night's primary mayor tom barrett joins me. good morning, mr. mayor. >> good morning. >> have you heard from labor leaders, will you see strong support there? >> i'm very confident not only will the other candidates who ran for this office will support me but i will get the labor unions' support. we're looking forward to having a very unified front for the next 28 days and beyond that. >> i want to ask you, look at these numbers. the walker campaign has raised $25 million. you've raised $831,000. how do you compete sf? >> well, david beat goliath, as you may recall. scott walker is going to raise a lot of money from out of state. he's raised $13 million already this year. 60% to 70% of that came from out-and-state donors. we know in terms of spending that he's going to fastly outspend us in this race. but just last week, there was an independent poll that had me with a one-point lead over skol walker. this is a lot about turnout. and we have a lot of grassroots organization going on. we have our website and people are being engaged. it's very ex
