mr. brooks. >> good afternoon, commissioners. eric brooks representing san francisco green party and the local grass-roots organization of our city. i would strongly urge you to continue this item. even though there have been years of planning on this, even though there has been a lot of hearings on it, there's been a recent development within the last month that completely changes the game on this issue. you've received some communications about sea level rise and tsunami dangers. keep in mind that tsunamis 10 feet and above are not accounted for in this project plan, and that could happen from alaska. also, the new estimates of worst-case sea level rise are 78 inches, not 55. the bcdc is relying on more conservative data from a couple of years ago from the ipcc. the scientist that is have come up with the new 78-inch figure are ipc scientists. so the most recent date is not being included and the 7 -inch figure is -- the 78-inch figure is nowhere in the response. the thing that's changed is because redevelopment was threatened

mr. brooks? >> eric brooks, representing san francisco green party and our city.last week's planning commission hearing, we reiterated our strong opposition to this project and that the eir should be recirculated. we were joined by the sierra club and others in that same call for the eir to be recirculated. the reason for this is not only the past things i have seen -- i have said about c level dangers, but the main reason now is the massive financial and governments changes in this project. these changes have happened all within the last month. the have caused staff to completely rewrite this whole thing in the last month, notwithstanding the claim that the product is not changing. the fact that they are going to have 20% less financing and do not know whether they can get that number back up from the state not only affects local hiring, not only affects affordable housing, but you heard them say today that the future preparation for sea level rise depends on future financing. if we are going to start this project with 25% less financing and no guarantee it is go

[ applause ] >> thank you very much. i'm deleted to be here and honored. thank you for hosting me this morning. if you allow me, i would like to start, since there is a concern of time by giving a broader context of what is happening in libya and the middle east in general. i would add at the beginning, what is taking place is a natural product of the globalization process that started in the mid '80s. we have witnessed some results from the financial and economic scene and we are witnessing the new global cultural paradigm of paying off some real concrete results in the middle east. i would say that what happened in libya cannot be separated from what happening in egypt, from what is happening in tunisia and what is taking place in yemen and what is taking place in syria. and i would also argue that this is irreversible trend, a new global culture of paradigm based on global values, common values, sharedy many young people in the world. more involved with in the political process, more part anticipator to of any country
