mr. carranza. and they are the ones that are going to suffer when the parents have to take three buses just to pick up their children and then go back to their own community. what i am disappointed about is we knew about this busing problem three years ago there was no plan to figure out how we were going to fix this problem. it is not like it is just happened. and so, we have to really think about who is going to speak up for the children. we are creating adequate conditions for every student to reach the full potential. they need our after school program and if we want to close the achievement gaps, those children need every opportunity that they can get. it is about equity and access. this is a social justice issue, for the past three years. we have lost 500 children in our after school program. and they need those programs. that is a part of their extended education. >> i am kelley president of the united educators and i wanted to finish one thing that elanie did not have to say, we lost childr

mr. mendoza. >> aye. >> superintendent carranza. >> it is hard to believe that we are end of february already and i want to lend my personal praise and support to all of our communities, this week is parent teacher conference week at all of our schools and so i want to encourage you to schedule the time to talk with your child's teacher, and it is time to develop a relationship with your teachers and work for the betterment of our children. it is also physical awareness month and we want to encourage all of our schools to hold events and teach lessons that promote active living. i am very, very proud to say that i have been invited by roosevelt middle school to run the 5 k with them in may, which i will be doing and i'm training hard for that now. but, we do think that good nutrition and good physical activity is important to good learning. so we want to encourage you and for more information and activities visit the webite at
