mr. chairman. ms. collins, thank you for your work. i'm not surprised my colleagues want to ask about the american rescue plan, child tax credit. you've heard these numbers. 92% of the kids in my state with families with children under 19. $3,000 in almost every case, $3,000 tax cut. parents i hear over and over are less stressed about affording the rent or groceries or school clothes. my question, ms. collins, and i will return it to my colleagues because i feel like i broke the queue a little bit here, what steps should the irs take to get the full tax credit to which you are entitled? >> i think the challenge for the irs is reaching those underserved communities and educating the taxpayers as to what benefits are out there. for more financially comfortable individual and larger corporations they have access to accountants, cpas, other professionals. it's usually the lower income folks that do not. programs are very important and the outreach the irs does with all of its partners that it works with is hugely important to getting that
