evan, did he overstate it? >> yes, he did. mr.hackelford i agree with when he talked about the fact that the constitution does protect freedom of speech including for those that disagree with treating gay people equally and the freedom to marry the court has respected. we all believe in religious freedom. we all believe in free speech or at least we should and the constitution certainly protects it. there is no conflict here. people have the absolute right to preach and to think and to say whatever they believe and at the same time those beliefs can't be used as basis for denying other people their equal rights and their equal freedom. >> we're seeing these two interests on a chicago course this week on a case out of oregon. a christian couple owned a bakery there and declined to do a same-sex wedding cake for a female couple. it was at a time in oregon where same-sex was not legal but they ordered this week to pay $135,000 fine and also they've been said they cannot talk about their beliefs in the context of this case. regardless

evan thanks very much. let's get to more on these late-breaking developments. andy burke is the mayor of chattanooga. he's joining us now. mrfor joining us. what can you tell us about these late-breaking revelations that mohammad youssuf abdulazeez, who was a resident of your beautiful community, actually was motivated by jihad if you will, that he may have been inspired by these terrorist groups. >> well i can't go into much about specifics of the investigation, what i can tell you is that we have a lot of federal personnel who are here they are looking at every possible angle. when i talk to them and here what they're doing i feel confident that wherever the trail leads, they'll find the end of the trail and i think that should give everybody in our community a lot of comfort. >> are you being briefed by federal, state, local law enforcement about the course of the investigation? >> our people work hand in hand with the fbi and the atf. the chattanooga police department is devoting all of the resources necessary to assist them and then they keep me in the loop as to what's going on. >> so this notion that he was maybe ins

mr. district attorney, thank you so much for being with us. >> absolutely. >> what can you tell us about the investigation as it stands right now? we just heard from our justice reporter evan perez more about this arrest that happened in the spring, this young man, this shooter was pulled over, arrested for dui. he smelled of marijuana and apparently had some crushed caffeine pills. was he under the influence? did you test him? >> he was arrested for dui. his blood test, one for alcohol and one toxicology for drugs and those aren't completed yet from the tbi. i don't know what the toxicology test would show. i wouldn't be able to tell you at this time. >> at a minimum he did smell of marijuana and had the white -- >> according to the affidavit. >> and he claims they were caffeine pills. right now a lot of focus on a possible motive. what might have caused this man to open fire at these military centers killing four marines. where does the investigation stand right now? >> it stands with the fbi leading in conjunction with the atf and local and state agencies are cooperating and helping them. like any investigation, they keep an an open mind and they don't discount anything

mr. trump. i have to do it, i have to do it. >> i want to bring in our panel now, executive editor of first look media eric bates. kaitlyn byrnes and evan smith. thank you for joining us. we saw the very tail end of -- i was wondering your initial reaction to trump's brief statements there? >> certainly he's achieving whatever he wants to achieve, i think he's doing that he had all of the national press down there, everybody kind of paying attention to him, he was able to get away with not really saying anything about policy, though he was asked about it. he doesn't say anything about what he would want to do with the undocumented here now. just talked about a wall. if you're looking at what he wanted to accomplish i think he achieved that. >> he seems to be the kind of candidate on this particular issue on immigration not discussing policy, discussing problem. i walked away from that not getting any sense of what he wants to do about this visit there, that he walked away with any possible solutions. >> trump is not going anywhere near anything of substance. his job right now as he sees it is to get attention. he's been, from the moment
