mr. farrell announced his intention to introduce a gun restriction law after the krissy field rally in 2017. as you recall, an alt-right group, requested a permit to hold a rally. there was a city-wide response to prevent the rally from becoming violent against the anti-immigrant national rhetoric. ultimately, the group withdrew from holding the rally, citing safety concerns for their own members. as you can see, our mayor of san francisco has been a true advocate of gun safety and gun control. please join me in welcoming mayor mark farrell. mr. mark farrell who will be making the announcement that we are all looking forward to listen to. so mayor farrell. >> thank you. debbie. it's good to be here, and love the interaction that we're seeing on our waterfront behind us. so thanks to the introduction, debbie, and i want to thank everyone for coming out today for this announcement. you know we're all here today because we care very deeply about our city of san francisco, and we care deeply about our environment in the city of san francisco, and i know we all have concerns about the federal leadership or lack of federal leadership on environmental issues right now coming out of washington, d.c. the head of our epa seems to be more concerned about flying first-class and the cole industry than pushing environmental policies forward that will have a positive impact if our communities. and while they continue to stick their heads in the sand in terms of climate change in washington, d.c., san francisco is once again stepping forward as a leader in our country for the environment. thanks to our innovatetive practices here in o

[applause] both of our children senate st. joseph's catholic school, a private school in our hometown of huntington. >> we opened a 529 account. previously could only be used to spend on college education. with the changes to the tax law, we can now spend it with st. joe for our kid's k-12 education. it's a great benefit us to. we know a lot of families taking advantage of it as well. we appreciate the change of the tax law that allows us to save and invest in the accounts and spend it on k-12 education at st. joe. additionally, service pump where i work, everybody in the company received a raise as a direct result of the tax plan, and we made sure that everyone there knew the reason they got raises was because of the tax laws. we appreciate that. o

mr. ballard's perceived conflict of interest. we have seen a lot in the news over the past several months about interim mayor mark farrell's proposal for municipal broadband. the goal which is to bring affordable, reliable internet to every san franciscoian is laudable. my concern is that this has been a nearly 2 1/2 year talking point. riddled with false starts and mistakes and that demonstrates the interim mayor's misunderstanding of his own project. since the introduction of this legislation on december 8, 2015, by then supervisor mark farrell, the public has been given very little information about this true cost of this proposal. instead they have been given limited sound bites. first from the supervisor's office and now from the interim mayor's staff. two years after the legislative introduction in february of 2017, he launched a fiber which was a task force meant to close the digital divide between the haves and the have-nots of internet connectedness. months later in june, he called for a hearing in the land use committee where many of the same statistics about the lack of connectivity were shared. well, last week interim m

farrell. >> thank you, david. i am proud to be here as the mayor to thank -- [horn honk] i'm going to start off. i want to thank mr. chu along with assembly member ting, but specifically on this issue here. leadership is critical to the future of our city. critical to the future of the waterfront and proud to be here at this announcement today. our waterfront is one of the most iconic parts of san francisco. it always has been. subjects of pictures, it's why tourists come here. it's one of the most beautiful parts of our city. and holding up the waterfront is our seawall. these are the buildings, the waterfront, the restaurants, the small businesses, but it's been holding back the bay to make sure that our tunnels are not flooded. holding back the rising tides of our san francisco bay to make sure we can walk along the waterfront in front of us here today. it is critically important to san francisco today and to the future of our city. we need to do everything we can as a city to make sure it survives and it's strong for the next generation. this project is not cheap. i want to really thank elaine for her leadersh
