mr. findley told me miss corbin had influence. and by the way, miss corbin, her brother, will, and her sister, iola, were married to my great-grandmother's sister and brother, mary lou and ted. so it was kind of a family affair. but then i heard the third or fourth stories i've heard is that i was -- i wanted to be the quarterback as a junior of the fichens fliers football team and they thought tom carswell was a better quarterback and if they sent him to washington, they'd have to be stuck with me as the quarterback. so that story -- i heard that story floating around for a while. and i'm not sure how i felt about that. but then the final story i heard was mr. smith told me that donald tem, who was the coach of the southeast packers junior football team, i think i was 13 or 14 when i played for him, it was the first year of '63 that they had junior football in springfield. and we had a really good team. tom was a running back then. but he wrote -- he gave a glowing endorsement, you know. so pick a story, whichever one you choose.
