mr. gallego, for five minutes. mr. gallego. thank you, mr. speaker. today as we continue our journey through the 23rd district as i take viewers on a one-minute journey through the district, through its towns, cities, culture and its people, this morning i have the great privilege of highlighting fabin, texas. it is located in the mission valley of el paso. as of the 2010 census had a population of 8,257. it's about 30 miles southeast of el paso, located along the rio grande river and i-10. known as home of the wildcats, it has long been a fierce competitor and a competitor of my own alpine bucks. i remember when they lost them to faben in my senior year of high school in 1980. i don't know if they ever forgotten that football game. kids are competitors. the prowess is known far and wide. the history of the community itself dates from the late 19th century. though in 1665, a mission branch known as san francisco de los sumas was located southeast of the future site. a stage coach station was in operation about three miles northeast of the site before

mr. gallego for four minutes. >> thank you. mr. secretary, thank you for hanging out and staying.i know that you know, many times when this row gets to ask u=ave.ons, the witness has to i appreciate the courtesy. very quickly, when we're talking about strategy, one of the things that i hear is that you know, we're very capable of winning battles but in the long run, we lose the war. that's certainly the impression that so many of the iraq war, the second iraq war veterans have in the district that i represent. as you know, it's a district that it's bigger than 29 states. i mean, it's about 24% or so of the land area of texas. it's a huge swathe. disparate opinions but there seems to be a good consensus that you know, the strategy that we'd outline is a strategy for a specific purpose, limited purpose as opposed to a more big picture long-term. you know? and the perception is we've seen this movieç before. what makes us think that the ending on this particular case is going to be any different than the endings that we've seen before? what makes this different from other times? >>

mr. gallego, for five minutes. mr. gallego: thank you, mr. speaker. this morning i'd like to highlight one of the really interesting towns of west texas as we continue the journey through the 23rd district which encompasses nearly 24% of the land area of texas, nearly 800 miles from one independent of the district to another. ith the population of over 800 people, sanderson was originally named strobridge and it was known as a switching point for the southern pacific railroad. in 1882 a roundhouse was built there and the name of the town was named to sanderson, after thomas sanderson, who was in charge of the construction. in the following year in 1883 a post office opened in sanderson. in texas, there is a person named as roy bean who was known as the law. judge roy bean opened a is a loan in sanderson in the early 1880's, but he couldn't compete with charlie wilson's cottage bar is a loan. after bean opened his is a loan, wilson allegedly spiked the whiskey with coal oil and judge bean soon had to move eastward and sanderson was dubbed as being too
