mr. gardner: thank you, mr. president. i come to the floor today, i rise today to discuss the continued broken promises of the affordable care act that passed in the most partisan of fagz several years -- fashions several years ago that we are in the process of putting a repeal and replace package together. many of the pieces we will be voting on tonight and over the next several weeks and months. obamacare's failures are simple. the promises that have been broken are clear. and while partisan supporters of the administration's plan continues to promote the success of the poorly conceived law, coloradans know far better. time and time again, hundreds of thousands of coloradans have felt the consequences of the affordable care act in their pocketbooks, in their workplaces, in their doctors' offices, in the choices that they have for health care. the past six years have been marred by higher costs, fewer choices and less competition in colorado and across the nation. it's now time that we stand up for the american people and

mr. gardner: i'd like to welcome the presiding officer to the senate and to say thank you very much for your willingness to sit here this evening. to my colleagues, thank you for being here. the hour is getting late. mr. bennet: i'm not going to take up a lot of time with my own words, but i did want to come to the floor and read the words of the people who had written my office, coloradans who had took the trouble to tell me what their concerns were with this suggested repeal of the affordable care act, and given the fact that they took the time to write, i wanted to have the opportunity to be here tonight to read their words into the record. it matters to a lot of people in my state because more than 600,000 people are now insured in colorado who were not insured before the affordable care act. we have had one of the largest drops of the uninsured rate in the country. we have dropped from 14% to 7%. really important from the point of view of saving money. the amount of uncompensated care has gone down by 30%. those at the hospitals, those are statistics, but the letters tell the human dime
