and then mr. hicks lost his mind when she moved in. >> so he didn't have a problem until this young man married your daughter? >> i -- i don't know that he ever had any issue. they never complained of him before until he got married and my daughter moved in one week after her wedding and her honeymoon and then trouble began. he did make it clear to her that he didn't like her and didn't like her friends. and he picked up not just on the parking but sometimes because there was noise, because she had five or six friends. our muslim kids do not party, they do not drink, they do not make noise, they do not play music loud so he was really zoning in on certain victims. and he never hurt anybody before though he picked on parking before for years. so why now, and why execution style? why bullets in the back of the heads? if you're angry with somebody and you get enraged, you shoot them in the face in the chest, in the leg, and then you run away or flee. but that was execution, sir. >> the president spoke out

as i said mr. hicks would carry a gun in a visible holster. he would touch his gun when he saw the young people. again, the daughter the wife would tell her father i'm really afraid of him. i think he hates us and he hates us for who we're. this was a cry for help. when they complained to the apartment complex manager, he said if he bothers you in any way, please call the police next time. unfortunately, that next time they were shot dead. >> and linda, i want to talk a little bit about the coverage. there has been some criticism that there has been kind of a rush to judgment that this was a parking dispute and sort of pushing away the possibility that this was, in fact a hate crime or that hate played a part in it. do you feel that narrative is more the fault of authorities who are trying to sort of contain what could become i guess, an interethnic dispute, or do you think it's simply a media narrative that the family objects to? >> to be honest joy, even if it wasn't a hate crime, you had three young -- a dental student, medical student. the

but it is interesting, when you talk to people here they describe mr. hicks, accused, as being a very very angry man who was angry virtually at everyone here and the things that would set him off is parking issues and noise issues. we talked to one student, samantha mainis who lives around the corner and the accused lived up in that corner apartment. the victims were around the back, the three who were murdered and so that is how close they were in proximity. the student told us that he would come out frequently yelling at people being very confrontational, in their faces, about people who would park in a way that he didn't like, about noises that he didn't like hearing in a student complex and that he was someone who was feared. feared to the point, because of his actions toward everyone that in the spring or winter of last year she couldn't quite remember when, they had a meeting here among residents and she thought maybe the apartment owner to talk about him and complain about him and he was someone they were worried about. when i asked him point blank if
