mr. jones? >> thank you, mr. chairman. i think our top issue with the cfpb will be the clarity of the issues, and the clarity of the rules and regulations that are issued, and the ability to receive and respond to industry up put prior to those regulations being implemented. >> mr. sharp? >> mr. chairman, our primary -- the changes we're pushing for primarily are structural. you know, it's very difficult as we all discussed today to know exactly where -- what problems may arise, where, and when, and in what sector. what we're advocating for is expanding the, you know, replacing the single directer with the panel and ensuring safety and soundness is not compromised through an effective check of the prudential regulator. at this point, we think the best long-term hedge against, you know, poor policymaking by this agency or any other independent agency is collaborative decision making from the top with input from diverse sectors, bipartisan up put. that's our top priority. >> okay. mr. fleming? >> mr. chairman, i would just a

. >> mr. jones, mr. fleming, do you believe the cfpb will enhance free market competitiveness and entrepreneur spirit, or not? >> mr. west, thank you for the question. i think -- we were happy to see the cfpb's move towards consolidating the truth in lending and a good faith estimate disclosures. to form set up in the challenge for the industry being administered by two separate, formally by two separate federal agencies that did not always see eye to eye in terms of what should be done. so we do think there's real benefit there. another benefit to our industry could be is that our industry is very heavily involved in the automation in order to comply with the multiplicity of rules and regulations we have. and to the extent i was very encouraged today to hear that the cfpb will be doing and economic cost-benefit analysis to really determine whether or not and to the extent that is what we do, that i think it can be a boon, not only to the industry and help to lower some costs, but it also will be a boon

mr. jones. >> thank you very much, chairman, ranking member, and distinguished members of the subcommittee. the colorado mortgage lending association is a 56-year-old organization employing over 2500 individuals. over 75% of our members are small businesses that employee less than 25 people. in my 42 year career in mortgage lender, i've been a loan originator, manager, entrepreneur, and a small business owner. i've always been proud to be part of an industry that helps people and families reach their dreams of home ownership. i've seen many people in the business start as loan originator and then start their own splal mortgage lending businesses. these people lived their own american dream, and in doing so, served the real estate markets and the buyers and borrowers of their local communities. the dodd-frank agent creates a superregulater for the mortgage lending industry and the cfpb. this is in addition to the oversight already in place by the states, fha, va, fannie mae, and freddy mac. they

mr. jones has been successful in getting some of these companies to reduce or cancel premium increases. a number of insurance companies were set to impose premium increases in my state, some were as much as 80% cumulatively. commissioner jones requested a delay of these until he had a chance to review them. the insurance companies complied. after review and pressure from him, and from across agreed to scale back the planned -- anthem agreed to scale back increases for six and a thousand individual policies and delay implementation of the hikes. here is the attache catch. anthem blue cross also serves customers through managed care. many californians receive their insurance through this department. their rates rose an average of 16% on may 1 of this year. the department of managed health care deemed these increases on reasonable, but they -- unreasonable, but they do not have the authority to block them. the company scaled back rates for some individual policyholders but not others. i do not thi

mr. president, i rise today to remember a fallen hero. nebraska army national guard sergeant omar jones of maywood, nebraska. sergeant jones served as an electrician in the 623rd engineer company, nebraska army national guard out of wahoo, nebraska. sergeant jones died at a military base in afghanistan on july 18, 2011. omar grew up in mississippi. he lived in bogota, colombia, for many years. he graduated from high school in colorado and chose to enter the army instead of pursuing a college athletic scholarship. he served two tours in iraq, one as an infantry naan the active duty army and one with the nebraska army national guard. his love of country compelled him to seek an assignment in afghanistan. he volunteered and even changed units and developed new skills for this opportunity. in october, 2010, he deployed to afghanistan with the 623rd engineering company. it was a tough decision to deploy again because his wife ava and two children had become the center of his life. but it was for their freedom he chose to serve again overseas. his commanders and his fellow soldiers recall ser
