mr. larson is recognized for five minutes. >> thank you, mr. chairman. i appreciate the spirit of which this hearing is being conducted and i especially appreciated the value that my colleague from wisconsin brings. you underscore a point. to look at the magnitude of this situation, it goes beyond anecdotes. and i'm speaking i think with a great deal of knowledge, just in my own staff here at the capital. when we talk about daycare, i to be out and employed. so it underscores i think what you're saying, representative moore, of the need for us to continue to augment. as the chairman has said, when we get to these cliffs, what is it at that cliff that we have to decide? zigler used to say why is it we don't utilize public schools that are already on bus routes, that are safe, that we can put people there and provide the kind of affordable daycare that is safe, fundamentally sound and would be helpful? take a look around. especially if you're a young mother and in the workforce, pursuing a professional career, take look around at what kind of daycare there

mr. larson, let me begin with you. i'm already hearing the blame game, that if, if tom barrett, the milwaukee mayor, loses, it's obama's fault for not coming into the state. i don't believe that for one second, state senator chris larson. i think it's because if scott walker wins, it's a grassroots movement and walker's done a good job running the state, balancing the budget, no taxes and curbing unions. how can people blame obama for this one if that happens? >> yeah, i mean, i don't know where to start correcting you, but the fact is, the only people who are worried about barack obama being in the state has been republicans. they've been trying to pick a fight with barack obama and make this about him. this is about style, this is about somebody, scott walker, who has decided to try and divide our state in order to conquer it, in his words. what you're seeing is an uprising because of that. if you had asked people on the street, i post on my facebook wall all the time, ask why are you looking to recall the governor?

mr. larson is the democratic caucus chairman, so puts him right in the middle of democratic caucus policy and strategy. he's also a member of the ways and means committee, the tax writing committee in congress. thanks for being here. i want to show you some economic headlines this morning. this is in the "washington times," slower markets for housing, jobs, and stocks. "usa today," sentiment has changed as dow plunges 6.2% in may. also "usa today," reports signal labor market is listless. "new york times," data suggests tepid outlook ahead of jobs report. also "new york times" -- well, that's europe, we'll let that go. "the wall street journal," the new fear gauge, treasury yield, investors embrace other havens to try to hold their cash. doesn't sound very good this morning in the economy. guest: well, it certainly isn't the kind of news you want to wake up to, and yet, clearly you would hope that congress would take action on it. the president has had a plan before the united states congress, and this president hasn't even been given the courtesy in the house of representatives of having
