mr. chairman. if home ownership is the american dream, this gop tax scam is the american nightmare. this gop tax scam raises taxes on people who want to buy a home. tax increases levied solely on middle class families as they're the ones who aspire to own their own home and can't afford to put the 100% cash down to buy the house. even if you can -- even if you still can't afford your house, the gop tax scam whacks you again by eliminating your ability to deduct your state and local taxes paid. homeowners. even if you own your home outright, you will have to pay a higher tax to live under that roof. but guess who gets to keep their state and local tax deductions. corporations do. and if that isn't bad enough, a recent report detailed that these tax changes would lead to a 10% drop in the value of a home. now, if you're one of the 111 million americans who lives in a rental housing unit, you may think you're in the clear, but you're not. this bill eliminates several important programs to create new affordable housing, exacerbating the crisis in affordable housing and homelessness. we need to be making housing more affordable, not less affordable. my amendment would do
