mr. mayor, welcome back to our march question time. i'd like to ask if you have any opening statements. >> thank you, president chiu. i do not and i'd like to thank everybody for, again, being here and let's go on with the questions. >> okay. with that, i actually have the first question. mr. mayor, to address the affordability crisis, you have rightfully pledged in your state of the city address to facilitate the construction of 30,000 unit of housing by 2020. as you know he, even as we build more housing, we need to do more to prevent the displacement of residents who are currently grappling with being priced out of our city. i believe that our city's housing policy must include a preservation strategy for existing affordable rent control housing in addition to new development, which we all know has been a much more cost-effective way to provide affordable housing and stabilize our neighborhoods. two initiatives that i've worked on to preserve our affordable housing stock are, one, to create

(laughter) now, mr. mayor, mr. mayor craig surone-on-one was on the command staff when i was mayor i don't understand why he didn't have better control now but he's cheap (laughter) it has been frankly (laughter) eleanor had that responsibility (laughter) and this business one of the components of leadership is also making sure mr. mayor you have somebody to blame (laughter) and the one you select make sure they're a solid in foundation so they can take it and absorb it and keep on moving. many of you around this as i look around we thought, you know, two or 3 hundred people would show up and lvld there's a hell of a lot more people showing. there are a few chairs in a small place but we wanted to celebrate i didn't realize you didn't have nothing to do on a saturday morning and needed a cup of coffee. there was a great debate on the staff side presentation of this event said we better do a tent because it had rained in california in almost a year we need to do a tent because we don't want people to get wet etc. and

remark, all i can hear is kaching and all of sounds is there is money for the opera house, right, mr. mayor? okay. i want to take this moment to acknowledge our wonderful mayor ed lee. this is a man who has walked and talked an are congruent with each other. mr. decaneey this you so much for being a director of a progressive forward thinking arts institution. and to the city family, thank you for understanding the significance of this building and more importantly the role it plays in the community. i want to acknowledge an amazing woman who has provided leadership to the community. she has afforded blood sweat and tears and this is ms. barbara -- barbara i want to give a moment to recognize your staff to help keep run this place and your dashing security. who is not listening but i will get him later. thank you, everyone who supports the organization who donates to the opera house to help keep programs alive like dare to dream. if you are a donor, please continue. we need to continue to provide a safe space for arts and culture in the community. lastly and certainly not least. i want to th

far in front. >> mr. mayoryou've been very vocal about how you were helped by a lot of government programs. your mop was helped by a lot of government programs. in ithaca, are people talking about health care and signing up or is there, too. much confusion? >> they're signing up. particularly young people which is good for us. one of the things we have is a huge pool of talent at cornell university, young people with great ideas who want to start their own companies and create their own jobs but not able to do it because they need health insurance. they take jobs in fields they don't want to work and we lose out on a lot of innovation because they're not able to take those chances. so people are talking about it but excite today get covered. honestly, frankly and this is what i think will play out in the future elections is that people are talking more about potholes and people are talking more about. >> democrats i think hope they're talking about other issues other than health care. i'm going to go to the boa

mr. mayor, i want to start with you. you're a former u.s. attorney. if somebody came to you with an investigation that came to a conclusion like the one that christie's investigation did but it did not interview the five most important players in the investigation including bridget kelly, bill stepien, bill baroni, all these people all involved in it, would you accept that as a complete investigation as a former u.s. attorney? >> no. no, i would not accept it as an complete investigation but i would accept it for what it's worth. in other words, i would go through it in great detail because it can give you a tremendous amount of information. so far, no one has gotten to interview those people, including the joint committee. this report has gone as far as anybody can go. it can give you very valuable information. for example, what kelly, stepien and these people were saying at the time to other witnesses. all of which is in the report. i happen to have read the report can be extremely important evidence. actually, i found sometimes the things they say
