i was very dispiappointed in mr mccarthy's comments today when we could have had an opportunity to come together and show civility and set a positive tone, mccarthy set a very negative tone. of course, this speaker got up and i think set the tone that was necessary, but there's no doubt in my mind that we have our work cut out for us to try to find ways to bridge the gap and do things for the american people. >> and just to be clear, he did say that he basically supports the effort to try to challenge the results of the electoral college. what do you think is the next step from here, congressman? do you expect the dust to settle fairly soon? is this going to be with us for a while? where do we go from here? >> well, wednesday there's going to be apparently a challenge of the electoral college vote counting. let's be really clear about what this process is. this is largely a proforma process. it's not the job of the congress to determine the eligibility of the electors. it's not the job of congress to conduct some investigation into the electoral votes that are sent to us by the states.
