mr. murphy. good to have you on "the ed show" tonight. >> thanks for having me. >> you are exactly what republicans love to put up in front of a crowd. you understand small business. i have done some research on your background. what was the difference? did the rhetoric of allen west really put you in this seat? >> it was a few things. it started off with his rhetoric. that offended a lot of republicans. we were getting phone calls from republicans saying, we're tired of the tea party. we want someone with your background as a small. business owner representing us. it was part of my campaign about showing the difference between us. but also talking about what i want to do going forward and why i thought i was the better candidate moving this country forward. >> one of the right wing talking points is that the democrats have put so many regulations on small businesses. i'd like you to speak to that. >> sure. when it comes to things like regulations. it's not about more or less, it's about smarter

mr. murphy in florida's 18th district by 2,556 votes.e the 0.5% threshold which would trigger an automatic recount in florida. allen west is going to now -- he's now lawyered up and he's trying to sue by claiming that there have been irregularities in st. lucy county, saying the vote count was not conducted accurately and fairly. so that's still somewhat of a cliff-hanger but it's very surprising because patrick murphy was outspent 4 to 1 by allen west. allen west was a tea party fund-raising machine, and if the current results hold, which for all intents and purposes we believe they will, allen west goes down, that's a trophy buck they will be putting on the wall. >> they're calling like the clubs. i have to ask you about michele bachmann. she managed to pull off a razor thin victory in minnesota, as you know. do you expect her to repeat her call for an investigation into congressional members who she feels may not be american enough? >> well, i don't know if she'll necessarily say that, but rest assured, martin, she will certainly stil

mr. murphy, did you win the election, is it over? >> no question about it we worn l. won the race.. so i'm ready to get to washington. >> do you think mr. west is certifiable? i mean, people that call out names like calling members of the house of representatives being very special, 78 to 81 members of the communist party in the house of representatives. and what do you you make of that when you run get against a guy like that? how did you deal with it? >> i'm glad that we can put this campaign behind us. i spent way too much time talking about allen west and his comments and his rhetoric becausic it was way too divisive for our country. i'm excited to get to work for the district and for the country and i'm tired of talking about allen west and really looking forward to moving on. >> were you able to get republican votes against him? >> quite a bit actually. we outperformed president obama in a couple counties here by about 4% to 5%. so we did pretty well with republicans. a lot of people reached out to us throughout the campaign and said i've been a republican my whole life, but
