mr. norman was treated unjustly, unfairly at a facility that bears the name of the city of st. francis. his mother is in the chambers this afternoon. i say to you, this issue is not about one's preference of personal dress. it is not a question about whether or not fads come and go. this issue is about the eternal question of will this nation be one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all? [applause] i have been against baggy pants because i know where they evolve from. i know of that prison industrial complex that unfortunately 1971 was so crammed with persons who look like me that a great riot erupted, and from that prison, there developed a new fad because inmates were not able to wear suspenders or belts for fear that they would hang someone -- supervisor chiu: thank you. thank you, dr. reverend. >> [inaudible] let's bring justice up. let's bring fairness up. [applause] supervisor chiu: 90 very much. i want to thank all of you for being here. there apparently are buses that will be picking folks up, and i appreciate everyone's patience as we change a little bit

mr. chairman, supervisors, al norman, bayview merchants, south beach facility commissioner. i would encourage you to approve this project. i do not think there is any other developer in the bayview or anywhere else that i know what that knows more about diversity, diversity not only in employment in business. with the developers there, i was one of the persons who helped -- well, i did the plumbing in the first two buildings when they have the st. francis square developers out there. i did not have to go and beg and get on my knees and beg for any work. they came and asked me to be a part of their project. i'm not know of any other developer that ever came asked me to do anything other than these folks here. i strongly urge you to pass this to the full board so they can get on about their business. the only objection i have -- i would love for bayview-hunters want to get the $1 million that she talked about, but my biggest objection is they talk about vis valley. they never say anything about sunnyvale project and the nonprofits out there working so hard and need the money t

mr. rose welcome you got to do something. this is unconscionable. and roosevelt looks across the desk and goes, do you know what, norman?mn fine better politician than you are. i know these people, and people are doing good work down the and it's just going to take some time. and norman was saying can't wait. in a way this is, this is what the response of some pacifists would say. you can't wait. you can't let this go on. that was his response to what was going on in the south. ultimately, you know, things did change and it did take a lot of time, but you could say like, maybe when the social climate for economic climate would allow roosevelt or the national guard to way things. maybe you need to wait third sheet -- 30 years. >> one of the things that fdr's own social conscience was awakened when eleanor brought him to new york to come and in so far as he was able to project, those values domestically, how do you, where do you come out on the issue of the limits of politics but the demands of justice? because no one would argue now that, because of the failures of reconstruction, jim crow, because of the robber barons o
