mr. perez: i have respect for jeff flake. i think he is a person of integrity, including jeff corker. the issue i have with them is not whether they are people of integrity, they absolutely are. i am confident it is not easy for them doing what they are doing. it is a heck of a lot harder that person struggling with opioid addiction not having health care. jeff flake was with donald trump 91% of the time, including the bill to repeal the affordable care act. john mccain showed courage in that vote. jeff flake went with the rest of the ground. while i appreciate the predicament we are in, it is a real illustration, the notion you can support the president 91% of the time and it is not enough. >> on the uranium 1 issue, is that going to have legs and to what extent is the dnc preparing for that? what do you make of the president and others calling the party the democrat party instead of the democratic party? do you care, and does it matter? mr. perez: on uranium 1, that is distracting donald once

right now we're going to a slebatory democratic national committee chair mr. perez. this evening. why do you think you're having a good night tonight? >> well, we've had great candidates with a great message. we have organized in every zip code in new jersey and virginia. we've got incredible candidates down ballot. in virginia the democratic party has never won more than seven seats at once in a house of delegates race. we needed 17 to take over the house. we have something like 11 now with about 8 hanging in the balance. this is all about great candidates who had a great message. and the message was we want leaders who unite. we want to make sure that people have access to health care, affordable education, a future for their children. and we're sick and tired of an america where our leaders are dividing us. the message was sent loudly and clearly here in new jersey and virginia and frankly a lot of mayors races across the country. we organized heavily across this state, built great partnerships, and we learned a lot from this lesson. and i'm happy for people who w

mr. perez's parade, he showed a 37% approval rating nationwide for democrats. that's a 25-year low.xactly a great number for them, but scott taylor, republican congressman, elected in 2016, on a trump wave, said he does blame the divisive rhetoric of the president on this night. and says i do believe this is a referendum on the administration. is he right, ron? >> i think he is clearly right. i think if you look at the results you see the trump shadow very large over both states. first of all, in the exit polls, roughly high 50s disapproval for president trump in virginia, over 60 in new jersey and roughly 85% of the voters in each state who disapprove of the president voted democratic for governor. that's what historically we have seen in midterm elections, every time since 1994, 82% of the voters who disapproved of the president voted for the other party in the house races. it's a sign that voters do not separate republican candidates from trump to a greater extent than they have previous presidents from candidates in their own party. second, you saw a very clear correlation in tu
