mr. qureshi. having been in islamabad for the last meeting and received the excellent work that your team has been doing. as the press it leaves, we're going to begin our discussion, and i will turn first to secretary gates. and then he will be followed by the defense minister. >> this is a look at the state department where we are expecting secretary of state clinton and the pakistan foreign minister to answer reporters' questions. the obama administration announced a five-year $2 million package of military aid for pakistan. the new military aid replaces a similar but less valuable package that began in 2005 and expired on october 1. it will complement $7.5 billion in civilian assistance the administration has already committed to pakistan over five years. we are expecting secretary clinton momentarily, and we will bring you that life here at the state department. >> while we wait for secretary clinton and the pakistan foreign minister, we are going to show you a portion of this morning's "washi

mr. qureshi, and his team of ministers. with u.s.erparts, we have made strides on a number of projects such as increasing the vaccination rate for children, and saving their lives, researching the solutions to the parsnips contamination of drinking water, improving the quality of we and cotton farms, insuring the investment of women is an integral part of all of the projects we pursue together because we know elevating the role of women benefits and their families, and persist with their children. those benefits to extend to communities as well. i am also pleased we have continued our emphasis on helping to improve the business climate. i am excited today to announce a new business development program -- the 10,000 women and initiative run by goldman sachs will partner with the state department to bring pakistani women into extensive training on business, leadership skills tough financial management, strategic planning, and operations. the first group will arrive next spring. we hope to give them the support needed to grow businesses

[applause] >> good evening. thank you for your introduction. as you well know, ladies and gentlemen, i'm here for the third meeting of the strategic dialogue. we could not ask for better start. the meeting was very satisfying for me in my delegation. ladies and gentlemen, it is an honor and privilege to be at this prestigious institution. i am thankful for the brookings institute and the asia society for inviting me to speak here this evening on the issue that is of vital concern on both pakistan and the united states. on in delighted others are with us here today. pakistan in the united states have been crucial allies and partners for more than half a century. our relations were never as coast and with as much a stake as today. this lends added importance to the third phase of the strategic dialogue between pakistan and the analyses for which i am here in washington. this dialogue will define the future of our bilateral relationship. it will also have a direct bearing on the success
