mr. rezaian can appeal his sentence. if you're about to be released, i doubt that mr. ian would appeal to his sentence. clearly there has been some form of a conviction. we have to wait to see what exactly it will be. jenna: so what comes with a conviction? what are some of the scenarios that could play out for jason? >> iranian state television channel, news channel, said mr. rezaian has been involved in sort of targeting iranians and other, international businesses that have allegedly helped the iranians bust the american sanctions. and, if that is the case, and, if mr. rezaian is convicting of spying he could get up to 10 years in prison which is not a small sentence. jenna: that one scenario. is there another scenario he could be convicted but released? >> i don't see that happening for now since mr. rezaian has been held for 478 days. and he clearly is in very bad position. iranians are using him to highlight case of iranians hired by the united states for sanctions busting. until there is some sort of solution for those people allegedly held in the united states,

mr. namazi is the most recent, but you also have jason rezaian.on post reporter who has been in detention for 450 days and convicted of espionage charges. we know little about namazi's case and how he was detained. we know it happened two weeks ago. we hear his passport was taken away from him. before that happened, we have to keep in mind and we have seen this from the rezaian case. the authorities are not transparent as to what the charges are and how long he may remain in detention or if he has a lawyer. those are things we don't know about. you are absolutely right. it is certainly something that to a certain extent complicates the relations. the two have a very good working relationship and in many ways, they were the main architects of the nuclear agreement with iran and the u.s. dealing with syria, now, which is a difficult issue and involves so many more parties. it is not something that will help. we know at this point the parties are together and the main meeting has started right here in the hotel behind me. >> that is news in and of it

mr. namazi is the fourth american remaining in detention. the second is jason rezaianthe washington post reporter, in detention for more than 450 days now. there are many, if you look inside, the iran experts or other people believe this could be a standoff with the moderates in iran around the president rouhani and the hard liners around the supreme leader and the hard liner security apparatus who don't like the nuclear deal and warned about what they believe is too much american influence in iran. of course, we know mr. namazi was someone pushing for closer economic relations to invest in iran at the time he was taken into custody. the big question is how much influence does the iranian government have when it comes to getting mr. namazi released and how much influence do they have here at the talks as well. to what respect do they actually speak for the hard liners in iran and lead the iranian security forces which are active in syria. it is a big step forward that the iranians here at the table and all parties are coming together to try to solve the syria crisis. t
