mr. roker, what's going on? >> well, we've got unfortunately risk area weather to talk stretching from the northeast all the way into the midwest and the lower mississippi river valley, hail, damaging winds, torrential downpours and can't even rule out a tornado or two. you look on the radar, stuff firing up. central indiana and rainfall amounts from green bay down to cincinnati. anywhere from three to five inches of rain. that's what's going on around the country. here's what's happening in your neck of the woods. >> that severe risk is coming our way tomorrow. today, though, a pleasant start this morning. good morning, tom kierein in storm center 4. temperatures around the region now are in the 60s west and north of washington, around the shenandoah valley in the mountains and closer to washington and near the bay, low to mid-70s and upper 70s in the metro areas and later today, low to mid-90s and a greater chance of some showers and some thunder and lightning tonight, as well as tomorrow mor

. >> mr. roker, what's happening? >> well, we've got a risk of strong storms today. they're going to be stretched across the east. but we're also talking about this drought. this is a tical summertime pattern, the upper level ridge stays down to the south, jet stream comes across the north. but look at this, this upper level ridge takes over much of the country and that's why we're seeing this drought of 2012. an extreme drought especially stretching from the central part of the u.s. all the way into the midwest and the southeast. the bad news is, we've got major rainfall deficits. kansas city, more than 10 inches below where they should be, little rock more than 6 1/2 inches. how much rain would it take to make up these deficits? little rock will be 15 inches, more than 10 inches in chicago and almost 13 inches of rain for oklahoma city to get out of this drought. that's what's going on around the country, here's what's happening in your nec of the woods. >> and we're going to see a bit more rain around here too today. right now, though, we've got bright sunshine fi
