according to mr. roveas been wronged by the press for years and it's time for the press to own up to its mistakes about him. specifically, mr. rove rails about allegations to the u.s. attorney's scandal that he manipulated the process for political reasons and says his role in the firing of u.s. attorneys was minimal and entirely proper and that critics should just let up on him about these demonstrably untrue allegations. you know what, the press actually doesn't need to let up on mr. rove at all. let me explain. in his article today, mr. rove emphatically disputes the claim that "the judicial process had been manipulated for political reasons." here's a story about that. in october of 2006, arizona republican congressman rick renzi was running for re-election. at the time, mr. renzi was the subject of a massive investigation by the u.s. attorney's office there for stuff like money laundering and extortion and insurance fraud. rumors that he was being investigated were starting to make headlines which are

the e-mails and documents are oozing with the pus of politics. >> mr. rovetill claims he had no direct involvement, no direct role. he was merely passing along complaints about you. what's your reaction to that rationale? >> completely false and provably false. after stone walling and then trying to tell half truths and untruths the overwhelming evidence beyond any doubt, not a reasonable doubt, but beyond any doubt, shows his active involvement in this process. >> you said provably false. as a u.s. attorney, that's a specific set of instructions and details. tell me what you mean by -- what is in there that is provably false? >> in terms of rove saying all along he had nothing to do with it, whereas the e-mails, the sworn testimony shows that he was made aware of the voter fraud issue, made aware by republican operatives in new mexico that i needed to be replaced and he wanted me replaced. that is something that a good lawyer could prove in a court of law. >> there is a federal prosecutor still investigating the firings. is there anything next to half with

so i think mr. rove is trying to deflect some of the blame here. >> and you mentioned mr. jennings. aying he has hired an attorney saying what rove is saying is false. which we don't hear too often, a former aid going back and saying you're wrong. >> we're seeing a lot of dissension from the bush administration coming out now. this always seems to happen. it's surprising in the bush white house which for so long seemed so unified and on message. and now we're getting a bigger picture of things. >> and an even bigger picture of word cheney. and word is he'll have a tell- all. he doesn't sound too happy in some of the excerpts and i wanted to get your thoughts because he's firing back at george bush, saying he was weak in so many ways. >> vice president cheney was never a loyal bush. he came in later. he was brought in to be a counselor to the president. he had no real vested interest in george w. bush's success. he had his own agenda. that was what was happening in the white house. clearly it's continuing now they've both left office. >> and with dick cheney, we keep seeing him more o

miers told the committee that she received a call from mr. rove, in which he said that the u.s. attorney in new mexico, mr. iglesias, was, quote, a serious problem. and he wanted something done about it. miers told the committee, quote, my best recollection is that he was very agitated about the u.s. attorney in new mexico. why would karl rove be so agitated about david iglesias? why was iglesias such a serious problem, according to karl rove? well, e-mails released today from the committee showed rove's deputy, a man named scott jennings, explicitly saying iglesias should be fired and complaining that mr. iglesias was, quote, shy about doing his job on madrid. madrid is patricia madrid, a democratic candidate for congress, who republicans were hoping the u.s. attorney would target with an election eve voter fraud indictment. iglesias didn't do that to patricia madrid. the bush white house and republicans were apparently furious about that. and then, david iglesias got fired. the federal prosecutor, nora danahy, continues to work on this case. she will decide ultimately whether

mr. obama was born there, this is not the first time the birthers have been had. last week another fake kenyan birth certificate made the rounds and was embraced by some conservative websites. even karl rove who has refused to criticize the birthers says this latest document is also likely a forgery. >> and david now to the bigger picture, why do so many on the right continue to want to believe that barack obama was not born in the united states? well, here is the authentic document that's widely been circulated from hawaii proving that president obama was born in honolulu in the united states. this document has been verified by the state's republican governor, but a large number of republicans still not convinced. look at this. a poll out this past friday shows 58% of republicans either believe president obama was not born in the u.s. or are not sure. however, ann coulter, even ann coulter has called the birthers, quote, cranks, and if an editorial in the national review calls birthers' claims foolishness. we will talk with the attorney behind the birther movement shortly. we're hoping to get her to the microphone and in front, david, to be able to talk with her. in the meantime, we're a
