mr. speaker. ms. sanchez: i rise to honor the life of greg cooper he recently lost his battle with cancer on maye 26 othis -- of this year. he was a proud united states marine and he served his country there between 1963 and 1967 and he did a tour in the vietnam war. upon leaving the marines, greg was hired by the santa ana police department, where he held several very high profile jobs and worked with elite tactical units we have. while serving his community as a santa ana police chief, he earned a bachelor's degree from california state university at fullerton and a master's degree from the university of southern california. leaving santa anna in 1992, he was appointed chief of police. and in 1996 he relocated here to washington, d.c., where he accepted a position with the department of justice to administer our cops grant program. in 2002, greg joined the department of homeland security as chief security officer for fema and he retired in 2008. mr. speaker, this nation and my community mourns the loss of a
