mr. sanford: i am. >> why? mr. sanford: because i think we need to have a conversation on what it means to be a republican. we have lost our way. i would say on a couple different fronts. first at the epicenter from where i am coming from, we have lost our way on deficit spending. one of the hallmarks of the republican party and conservative movement has always been how much do we spend? the ultimate measure of government is how much it spends. i think as a party, we have lost our way. the president has called himself king of debt. he has a comfort with data that i think is ultimately leading us in the wrong direction. we can get into those numbers but the numbers are astounding. take as a data point this last debt deal that adds to trillion dollars of additional debt to our country over the next 10 years, one third of a trillion dollars in new spending, and there was no conversation on that. the epicenter where i'm coming from is we have got to have a national conversation and a republican conversation on where we
