mr. meadows: i think it is interesting to hear the comments from senator schumer and speaker pelosi, saying they want a deal, when, behind closed doors, their actions do not indicate the same thing. as we look at this particular issue, the secretary is right. we offered $105 billion for children to attend school. the democrats said that is not enough. $915 billion for state and local -- that is where they were two weeks ago. today, they are at $915 billion. now, if you were talking about compromise, even with their $1 trillion washington, d.c. magical way of saying they will come down $1 trillion, they cannot come up with any significant cut in their bill. what they want is a $2.5 trillion blank check. and i can just tell you the president has encouraged us not only to negotiate, as the cometary indicated, to back and negotiate in good faith, but at this point, i am extremely disappointed that we came up here today just to hear the same thing repeated over and over again, which is the same thing we have heard repeated for the past two weeks. sec. mnuchin: >> the chief and i will recommend t

mr. meadows, who is in washington. i want to start with the state of discussions on that aid package. yesterday senator schumeraid it was the best discussions we've had so far. would you put it that way? >> i would characterize it that way, but we still have a long ways to go. i can tell you that we spent the last three days -- actually the last four days, trying to get to some kind of consensus, at least to start negotiating. yesterday was a step in the right direction. our staffs are actually working today and we'll be meeting again tomorrow. i'm not optimistic there will be a solution in the very near term, and that's why i think the effort that senator martha mcsally led on the senate floor to extend the enhanced unemployment was the right move, and yet senator schumer and his democratic colleagues blocked that. >> john: well, there has always been some heartburn among republicans who see an extension of a larger number being a strain on the deficit. so my question to you is -- >> but, john, i would recommend when that came to the senate floor, there was not a single republican that voted against that. it

you told speaker nancy pelosi and chuck schumer that there will be emergency use authorization for a vaccine by the fall. will there be a vaccine by this fall? mr. meadows: i read the article and there's a little bit of liberty in terms of the anonymous sources in the room that would share that. i'm optimistic. there are a number of vaccines in phase three clinical trials. what we are doing is trying to produce hundreds of millions of files of the vaccine. so whether it is actually astrazeneca or any of the others that get approved, we are going to make sure it is good science and the efficacy and the safety of those vaccines are well tried. it is warp speed, but i'm optimistic that one of the seven or eight candidates that we have will get approved and hopefully be deployed by this fall. will the united states except foreign trials? russia says it has gone ahead on a trial. there some other ones around the world. mr. meadows: we are not going to accept a foreign trial from russia. we've got fda protocols. i think i've made it clear on that. we have the highest health and safety standards in the world. that is not something you can sacrifice. y

mr. dejoy when he testifies? >> well, i would hope we'd hear the truth, but what i have heard, leader schumer and i heard in our - the negotiating table when we asked him to come in was just a rationale but certainly not a justification for what he was doing. and what they are doing is following up on their ongoing plan. they always wanted to privatize the post office. they wanted to do that so they don't have to contend with collective bargaining, the beautiful diversity, the fact that nearly 100,000 veterans both work at the post office and that is part of the post office agenda. and so this is a continuation of that. but it comes at a time when they want to discredit the election so you see the senate report a bipartisan republican-led senate saying what is happening that it takes your breath away to see the communication that russians people, associated with the russian government had ongoing conversations with the trump campaign and with the trump family. so it's again about undermining the integrity of the election. it's about dishonoring your oath of office to uphold the constitution of the united states.
