mr. sharif's position is a little more delicate. he has been elected, elected for a year, but the fact remains that pakistan has a long tradition of the military affecting itself against rulers trying to make peace with india. much to have the hawkish force in pakistan is being fed by the military and intelligence service in pakistan which everybody around the world knows to be involved with terrorist groups attacking inside india. so mr. sharif will have great difficulty overcoming resistance. >> brown: which goes further to whether he should have gone to the meeting. >> i feel he should have gone. but there are a lot of people in pakistan using this argument against him. the fact remains in pakistan the hawkish elements uses the indian means of establishing hawkish identity. that is what liberals in packston dispute because it's not necessarily good for pakistan either. >> brown: you mentioned prime minister modi's past does not suggest a lot of -- well, he said harsh things and his party have been harsh about pakistan, but you st
