mr. shaw, randy. i will go ahead and start. you know, it was just yesterday that i was standing under the rotunda listening to mayor lee's inaugural speech, and i think this is an incredible time for our city. a time where the city is coming together and moving past the old political pigeonhole. i want to say first and up front that we are the city where everyone is included. we are the city for everyone. our priorities are clear. we need to focus on jobs and smart economic development for all of our neighborhoods and rolled up our sleeves, get to work, and get things done. to the people of district 5, mayor lee and i share the same standard, that every decision i make will be what i believe are in the best interests of my constituents and the people of san francisco. i think you all know that i am is following in the footsteps of great supervisors who have represented district 5, starting with harvey milk, harry brit, matt gonzales, and ross mirkarimi. matt, i know that you're here today, and i want to thank you for your couns

it's very nice to meet you, mr. shaw. please call me edward.e, many years ago. you look like her, if memory serves me. that's what people tell me. i'm very happy to be here. we're very glad to have you here. i, uh... i think i'd better sit down. i'm afraid these visits here are rather tiring. they take the wind out of my sails. can i get you anything? no, i'll be fine. just let me rest a while. are you going to stay for supper? i wouldn't miss it. go on, now, and show her the rest of the house. and i'll see you at supper, rebecca. that'll be very nice. nancy: my uncle edward lived in the house his whole life. but his physical condition deteriorated too much and i had to move him to one of those retirement homes for the elderly. it was a very difficult decision for both of us... but at least he comes home once a week. today's the day. he's a very distinguished gentleman. and he was a very good musician, too. he used to play the piano beautifully but he can't anymore. he's... just too frail. come see the kitchen. and this is the kitchen. who left

mr. chairman, are you going to stay hope to questions? >> yes, we will be open for the record. >> doctor shaw, you mentioned the great advances in productivity worldwide. at least i recorded dramatic increases. let me ask the fundamental question. one of the great disputes in the past with the advance has been resistance of modified seed. this has come perhaps because of european influence on african countries. that influence was such that productivity increases were deminimus and the case of bad weather was disastrous. i'm curious how you have overcome that resistance which is still the case in many economies as i visit with german farmers or even in ukraine. that this generally affects the soils and the waters and is a hazard i find apart from the boost in nutrition. can you describe your success or how you have moved in this case? >> thank you, senator. we have as we discussed previously been focused on making sure we use all available appropriate technology to help in particular vulnerable small scale farmers, most of hume, 70% of what do you mean of women improved production of food and
