mr. shaw wrestled the rifle away from reinking and tossed it into another part of the restaurant to end the gunfire. mr. shaw saving, obviously, many lives in his heroic action. re reinking entered the restaurant and got out of the truck, nude except for a green jacket. a block away from the waffle house, or not even a block, he shed the green jacket and continued southbound on murfreesboro pike on foot. when we recovered that green jacket, there were two magazines containing ar-15 ammunition. he clearly came armed with a lot of fire power intending to devastate the south nashville area. the police department's hazardous devices unit, the bomb squad, if you will, responded to the waffle house to ensure that there were no explosives in rein reinking's truck. the police department didn't search the truck until we were sure that it was safe. once the bomb squad cleared the truck, we learned from paperwork inside that reinking lived in a nearby apartment. the police department went to that apartme

and this man mr. shaw, 29 years old. and it was mr. shaw who describes that he saw something very peculiar, the way reinking came in and looked at the room before he really opened fire, killing four people, injuring many others. now with me on the phone, nashville mayor, david briley. oh, there you are, live in front of the camera, my apologies. what an extraordinary account of detail there coming from mr. shaw. but listening to you during that press conference, you too are challenging the status quo. you said it is time to take the weapons of war off the streets. last night nashvillians were terrorized by a man with an ar-15. more on your thoughts, please, mr. mayor? >> that's right, i think people have had enough of this. there are certain weapons that are out there being sold, that pee people are specifically choosing to go out and commit acts of terrorism in this country. no matter what the law is, these kinds of guns are being used for this purpose. we got to do more than just background checks, we got to do more in making sure tha

mr. shaw's actions clearly surprised him at that particular point in time. when you're in an active shooter situation, you have to run, hide, fight scenario to look at. and mr. shaw took the exact right actions when the individual ran out of ammunition. and he was possibly reloading or the we jammed and mr. shaw was able to wrestle the gun away. there could have been a lot more casualties at the waffle hours. >> do fugitives on the run often return back home? >> yes. a lot of times they go to locations that they are familiar with, especially in intense situations like this. he could be very well watching the news and gathering all this information. we don't know at this particular point in time where he went after he hit the tva power lines, but yes, a lot of times they will return to a location they are familiar with. but the first thing law enforcement will do is get to those locations where they know they have a spouse, family, friend, associate or coworkers thaw are close with. and immediately take a look at them right away. >> obviously, it is going to
